On religious obedience

Custom, tradition, and intellectual laziness lead men to follow their religious leaders blindly. Religions have been the sole cause of the bloody wars that have ravaged mankind. Religions have also been resolutely hostile to philosophical speculation and to scientific research. The so-called holy scriptures are worthless and have done more harm than good, whereas the writings of the ancients like Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, and Hippocrates have rendered much greater service to humanity.

  1. The al-Razi quotations were great finds, I’ve saved them – thanks for that!

Very thought provoking … I often and for years have been thinking, reading and sometimes writing about the phenomenon of world’s religions. It is a complex topic … and I am afraid inseparable from human conditions since the beginning of time. While I do not subscribe to any organize religion, and describe myself as a free thinker … I cannot but respect the vast body of knowledge (including art) that originated, and/or was preserved by various religions over the centuries!
    Kind Regards,

Daniela, thanks for always finding time to read random thoughts 🙂

There is vast body of art especially since in the beginning all great buildings were religious buildings from the Aztecs, Egyptians, Roman and Greek civilizations. Knowledge, especially scientific could have been preserved by the world religions but most of the religious leaders were greatly opposed to scientific discovery and thought.
