Happiness is an elusive rainbow we pursue all our lives.

Well said. How we never get tired of chasing this mirage eludes me!

Agreed. I don’t think “Happiness” is possible, not if one is awake and aware of what is going on in the world. However, I think we can seize moments of pure bliss, cheer unblemished joy that makes us forget everything but the moment we are in. And that is as close as we get to happy… but it is not nothing. 🙂

Oh yes, there are moments of pure bliss that allow us to forget ourselves for brief moments that to some of us are the only reason we can go on with this life!

So true, my friend with an insightful mind and caustic wit! We all have to remember that happiness and unhappiness are found in all families, no matter the situation or location. Enjoy the book! I fell asleep during the movie, but I had a nice dream! Naked hugs!

Tell me about the dream my brother, that must have been an interesting one.
Happiness is a fleeting past time, it is always elusive. Just when you think you are happy, you find a reason to be unhappy. I think our lot was condemned to be mainly unhappy with small glimmers of what a world of bliss would be.

It is a brilliant beginning for an interesting novel. Though I like more the way A tale of Two cities begins.

RE: “I like more the way A Tale of Two Cities begins” – just wouldn’t be the same in any other prose than Victorian, would it?
“Things were really cool; things really sucked” – sort of loses something in the translation —

It sure does lose something in the translation.

Happiness and unhappiness are faces of the same flipped coin.
The key is to find contentment no matter which side the coin lands.
never read the book…but I am sure I have it among my collection somewhere.

Happiness I think is that state we aspire to but is always elusive. When you think you are happy, something disturbs that state!

On Joy and Sorrow
Kahlil Gibran
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
Some of you say, “Joy is greater than sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.”
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits, alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.
Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.

That poem is great my friend.
Do you think our normal state is anxiety and worry while happiness is that mirage that as soon as we think we have attained, it slips away?

If you’ll recall, I likened it to an elusive rainbow.
