On free will

You think yourself free, because you do what you will; but are you free to will or not to will; to desire or not to desire? Are not your volitions and desires necessarily excited by objects or qualities totally independent of you?

That’s the very question! Or would free will require we can travel back in time, infinitely?

I willed myself not to put a like. I always put a like on your post. I refuse to do it this time. It is taking a lot of will power but I am strong and willful!

I stopped thinking about free will ages ago. I don’t know why is it a debate! Neil DeGrass Tyson in one of his documentaries about science showed brain surgery on a young male who had a tumor in his brain which was successfully removed, thanks to science of course, but during the surgery and before they closed his skull, some neuro scientists asked the patient (who was awake during the surgery) to perform some actions. Scientists told him not to move his hand, but just by tackling specific parts of his brain, he unwillingly started moving his arms.

Free will is just how external factors affect your brain, IMHO
