People ask odd questions and they get more odd by the day!
By a show of hands, how many of you are atheists because it is comforting? I will be counting.
This question is a bit challenging, simply because to answer it correctly, I would have to make a generalization on theism which may not be universal. The Judeo- Christian sects believe that they will survive their death in one form and spend this time in eternal bliss, for those who are lucky, with their god in a heaven and the rest who don’t qualify will be BBQ’d for eternity.
The second belief they have and I think this is universal in theism that the gods they worship are concerned with their daily affairs and listens to their petitions.
It is held in the Judeo- Christian sects that man is born fallen, with freewill to or not to follow their benevolent dictator so that in the event they are condemned to be…

Excellent analysis. But the question implies people have some discomfort in the first place, if not why would we need some comfort?

A friend recently wrote, hope exists in our vocabulary because around us, there are many unfulfilled dreams. Had it been there were no such, a word such as hope would be without meaning and the same I think is true of comfort.

am an atheist because it’s what the evidence indicates. I do find it far more comforting than believing in a rather dumb violent deity controlling the universe, at least as how most religions claim.

I think it’s the theists that find comfort in the thought of ‘some god’ that have control over them and that can ‘help’ them. So, whose side am I on? Definitely the atheist side but since I don’t belong anywhere, I’ll just watch everything there from my ‘Googlist’ chair. LOL!

It (atheism) is definitely less stressful than any belief system. There’s no concern about judgment. That’s my two-cents worth! Good question, my friend! 🙂

I agree, my friend. I just didn’t think anyone is concerned with such a question. I wonder why this would matter really.

“Is atheism more comforting than theism?”
No; it is not. People become Atheists just for convenience; not that there is any Truth in Atheism. Atheism cannot stand on its own; how could it give any comfort to others. The real comfort is in Truth; Atheism is a position of doubt and ignorance; it is an illusion.
Please don’t mind; no disrespect intended to anyone.
