When bearded old men can sit and decide to tell the world that Islam has no lower age limit for marriage. You could as well deliver your child today and have them married off the next day!
CII declares laws prohibiting underage marriage as un-Islamic
This is quite disturbing. I just can’t believe that anyone can justify child-brides. 😦

Absurd? You are much too kind. Disturbing? Still too kind. 😦
I am sure someone will come along and post an appropriate word to describe it.

I couldn’t find one word that would best describe given the limited vocabulary I have!

I know… it needs several words to describe. (Words that would probably get us kicked out of WP) lol

I have been watching this closely. Where is the outrage? Why isn’t this considered a crime against humanity? Religious freedom? Culture is more important than human lives? Why are people not fully grasping both the short and long term ramifications of such inhumanity? Here are a few facts about child brides:
Premature Pregnancy: Child brides almost always bear children before they are physically – or emotionally – ready.
Maternal Mortality: Girls younger than 15 are five times more likely to die during child birth or pregnancy than older women. Pregnancy-related deaths are the leading cause of mortality for girls aged 15 to 19 worldwide.
Infant Mortality: Mortality rates for babies born to mothers under age 20 are almost 75% higher than for children born to older mothers.
Health Problems: Premature childbirth can lead to a variety of health problems for mothers, including fistula, a debilitating condition that causes chronic incontinence. Girls with fistula are often abandoned by their husbands and ostracized by society.
Illiteracy: Child brides are often pulled out of school and denied further education. Their children are also more likely to be illiterate.
Poverty: Child brides – already poor – are isolated and denied education and employment opportunities, making it difficult for them break out of the cycle of poverty.
Abuse and Violence: Child brides are more likely to experience domestic abuse, and violence than their peers who marry later.
Mental Health: Violence and abuse can lead to post-traumatic stress and depression.
Isolation and Abandonment: Child brides are often isolated from their peers and abandoned if they develop health problems like fistula.
What can be done to prevent child marriage?
Education
Girls with a secondary education are up to six times less likely to marry young compared to girls with little or no education. It gives them alternative opportunities other than marriage; and increases socio-economic status and earning potential..
We can see why so many young girls are denied education, and their very life threatened if they do try to get one.
Shame on CII and any culture that sanctions this. Shame on these pedophiles fucking helpless children in the name of their god.

It is a great shame to a culture that sees nothing wrong with taking young girls out of school to get married to often very mature men.
In an attempt to be politically correct, most defenders of this would say no cultural practice is greater than the other and to argue as we are is to the ethnocentric. I say fuck political correctness, if a cultural practice is such that it leads to the maltreatment of any one, then it is only reasonable that such practice is abolished.

And how much physical and mental damage and death is happening to these child brides on a daily basis and we are not being made aware of it in the media?
“Yemeni child bride, eight, ‘dies on wedding night’ of internal bleeding after marrying a man five times her age, but official denies allegations. But two Meedi residents contacted by Reuters confirmed the incident and said tribal chiefs had tried to cover up the incident when the news broke, warning a local journalist against covering the story.”

I remember this story. Heart rending. “It’s always been done this way” is not an excuse to always keep doing it this way. This ‘cultural difference’ is nothing more than sanctioned sex slavery of children. Eight…she was only eight! What kind of sick person even has sexual desires for an eight year old?!?

Exactly, Ruth. Any individual, religion, culture or society that sanctions this is sick, period.

Very sick person, but it is worse if there are many of them thinking there is nothing wrong with it. They belong in a rehab.

Ain’t that the truth! Occasionally one might find a sick person who would do this, but this many grown-ass men think this is a good idea?!?

And further sit down to say it is against the teaching of their religion is sickening! There is something wrong with a religion that among its precepts is such a rule.

All I’ve got is…wow. Amazing how the crazy in peoples magic books is decreed acceptable, soley because the crazy is in their magic books.
It doesn’t matter which cult, or which subset of a cult it is, they all find what it is that pleases them in their magic books, and stick by it.
Disgusting excuses for human beings all of them.

Shortly after I posted my first comment here, I got spammed with malware. The stats showed it was from Egypt. Only a correlation — but the timing and the fact that this isn’t the first time it’s happened after making similar posts tells me that we’ve been ruffling some cock feathers?
And for those who keep it up — beware —you are being monitored. Just saying.
