(Gasp!) SAY it isn’t SO –!
BTW, I hear the Pope is ailing – since he appears to be the first Pope in ages seemingly intent on making actual reforms, I would suggest checking his blood for poison, preferably pre-postmortem.

Since he is old, maybe they could just hasten his death and say it was natural death

They did that with John Paul 1. I’m not one for conspiracies, but JP1 wanted to clear up the Vatican Bank mess. He was pope for a month and died. Rumor is his tea was poisoned. The movie “Godfather 3” worked it into its plot. Curious.

Maybe they would be afraid to try that if I became pope. Now how do I become cardinal?
The case of JP1 is curious and suspect.
There is a movie, I think, Angels and Demons where the pope is poisoned.

Yes. I’m sure they got the idea from JP1’s experiences. Sure is suspect.

Now, “they” (the Vatican Powers-That-Be) have a new angle to work with – they can have him shot, and blame it on the Sicilian Maffioso!

And Coppola can work it into the plot for a “Godfather 4”. The circle will then be complete.

Our local priest (not mine, I add quickly) was an abuser. Did it stop my neighbours believing?

They never stop to believe. In fact for most people these reports have always been unreal.

It was most strange. The teen went on church youth trips, told us about it all, and continued to go to church. The priest in question was well known about locally. Got sidelined in the end, as I remember.
Not only do they mess with your head, they mess with your body. Very bad news.

That is quite a strange boy.
Yes very sad, they mess with you completely if they get the chance

He was pretty intelligent. Worked at Sellafield, (nuclear power), GCHQ, -UK spy system thingy, and went to Cambridge university. Then he went wandering around Patagonia.
But still, the whole issue of authority and abuse and fear and power is one that needs to be totally got rid of.

Strange what religion and fear can do to your average bright fellow.
Fear for most people is a great motivation to remain in church

This pope is really shaking up the church. I wonder if the diehards are plotting against him.

They’ll kill him as those words were about to leave his mouth.

They would kill him for thought crime just like in Orwell’s 1984

Another John Paul 1, you think, Bob?

It’s possible, John. The Vatican has certainly done some very dirty deeds in the past.

Ya think? So do the other issues they mentioned and didn’t mention — gender inequality, anti-contraception, anti-choice, anti-divorce, hording the goods, exorcism, and on and on. The RCC is and has been a malignant cancer to the body of humanity.

Defrocked? While that may hold some meaning for a religious type, it seems a tad weak to me. How about denutted? Or depeckered? Or perhaps de- allowed to walk the streets freely?
This POS will just become an insurance or used car salesman, and is free to pander to his urges on the street. My mind sees a white van with “free candy” on the side.
How is it exactly, if a priest diddles kids he gets defrocked…and a regular (though somewhat twisted) Joe gets 20 years in a prison that has “special” treatment for kiddie fuckers?
I suppose a defrocking is at least preferable to moving them to another town to abuse more kids, but damn. Being a priest seems like having a get out of jail free card to me.

“Being a priest seems like having a get out of jail free card to me.”
That is spot on, SD. The RCC has a “special” insurance policy to cover them for lawsuits againsts their kiddie fucker priests. That says it all.

Noticeably absent from all of this are the Vatican pronouncements stating its now instituted policy changes that include reporting offenders to the legal authorities and providing restitution to the victims themselves.
Perhaps the best way to drive that message home is via several thousand class action lawsuits. In the words of Blu Cantrell:
When your priests wanna get buckwild
Just go back and Hit ‘Em Up Style
Put your hands on their cash
And spend it to the last dime
For all the hard times

Class action lawsuits in several places would get the church to wake I presume
