and her bishops in Liberia think Ebola is a consequence of immorality and their god is exacting its punishment on the people of West Africa.
Since, in the opinion of these bishops, homosexuality among others are at the root of the Ebola pandemic, we must needs know if all the deaths resulting from Ebola have been lesbians and gays only? If this isn’t the case, we must say the bishops worship such an evil master who punishes others for the crimes not of their own.
It is 2014, we should have moved away from such myopic views of the world we live in.
I don’t know why we still have catholics.
Catholic Archbishop: Ebola is punishment from God for homosexuality
The strange thing isn’t that the catholic Archbishop is spewing such nonsense over there. He obviously has his own political and financial reasons for doing so.
The strange thing is that the flock ACTUALLY swallows such tripe. It is so blatantly nonsensical that any person with even half a brain would see right through it.
But then again, this is THE core of the matter: that religious beliefs make it possible, and NOBLE, for people to live entire lives without ever thinking. Further, it makes such livelihood fashionable.
If there were ever to be a Judgement day, and such a day were to be just, the one question that all religious people should be made to answer is this: “You had a fully functional brain in your earthly life. Why did you never use it, even once?”

Religion requires you to forego being critical half the time. The Bishop claims he speaks for god, the flock must believe him. He exists as their intermediary.
Such a question will leave many believers bewildered

But even if someone claimed to be speaking on behalf of another one, his words should at least be consistent with the words of the other. In this case, consistency has been thrown right out the window. After all, the Christians believe in an eternal conflagration for all sinners after death. What, then, would be the purpose of an earthly punishment, if there’s an eternal one after that?
I sometimes look at how the believers reason things out, and can’t help feeling relieved that, at least, religion is not an airborne, or water-borne, disease.

I don’t think consistency is one of the strengths of the religious. And especially its leaders.
It is a difficult job trying to understand how the religious think.

As a reason to detract others from asking “Why ebola?” and instead focus on stirring homophobia and hatred on blaming others. Same old trick that this institution has used throughout history. Good point, my friend! 🙂

It is a lame excuse for a religion to justify their bigotry.

That Catlick Church and its leaders are a stain on human morality worldwide. It is a homophobic institution that condones and breeds pedophile rapists, and yet, its leaders can still find the time to make ludicrous comments about Ebola. At times, I wish their hell where real so that they could burn in it when they die. For if there is any “evil” in this world, it lies in hearts of men such as these catlick bishops.

There is nothing more to add. They are and as long as they will be preaching, a disgrace to our collective intelligence

I agree with Joe up top. The fact that the flock swallows this BS is an even worse indictment.

Yeah, Catholicism is a mess. But, those rabid, gun-toting, dominionist evangelical Christians in the southern U.S. are much more frightening.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Not to take away from the discrimination and hate crimes against homosexuals, but for centuries, women have also suffered horrific treatment (still do) — discriminated against, enslaved, oppressed — emotionally and physically abused for “crimes” not of their own. (Genesis 3:16)
I say it’s time to burn the motherfucking (and child fucking) Church down to the ground.

According to the Economist , in the U.S. alone, the RCC raked in 171.6 billion in 2010. Only 4.7% went to charities. No doubt, not much has changed since then.
If anything, they’re richer considering the fact that elitists and corporations such as Domino’s Pizza, are their primary donors. Tom Monaghan, the founder of Domino’s Pizza is another one of those patriarchal, misogynisti, pro-birth control freaks who believe that birth control is “gravely immoral”.

“Bring ‘em into the world, but fuck ‘em after they get here.”
All too literal. How people become attached to such a mind fuck as religion, and are incapable of seeing the obvious hypocricies and inconstencies, and all of the “do as I say, not as I do’s, and the self proclaimed authorities, with way too much power, is beyond me.
I often wonder if many of us, have some innate trait that makes us prone to subjugating ourselves, willful slaves. Is that what religion has tapped into?
The ultimate con.

A few years ago there was violence here because of botched elections and a feeling of disenfranchisement. You would expect the idiots at the top learnt anything from it.

I agree. Unfortunately, I see two possible scenarios happening here: a revolution or complete submission to those abusing their power. Either way we lose. Our police are militarized, and all the government needs to do is implement Marshall Law. Those religious radicals boasting that they’ve got guns aren’t going to do squat up against armored, mine-resistant ambush-protected military vehicles sitting in the lots of the law enforcement facilities. Here’s what we have in my state:
