I live in a country where so many people are religious. I have nothing bad against the religious. Most of my friends are people of faith.
What gets to my nerves is meeting a religious person who thinks that I hate his god without ever trying to get to know my background. I hate it when a guy thinks that maybe I have not watched god is not dead and that if I watch it, I may just say bye to non belief. I hate it when guys think and voice it, that am an atheist because of some bad thing that happened to me.
I hate it when in an attempt to save my non existent soul am told to read a book written by some charlatan whose only saving grace is that he knows his audience too well that he writes what they want to hear.
That is a long list of the things that piss me off.
Enjoy your Sunday good people
Couldn’t agree more with you, Mak. It is very hard to hate a god I do not believe exists. I hate Jesus no more than I hate Isis because neither are real. Also, I do not pester those I know who are believers to become non-believers. I don’t really care what one believes to be content. But, like you, I do care, and do get pissed off when the faithful take it upon themselves to rub my face in their magically beliefs and insist I’m less than whole because I do not believe them too. Great post. May the great Golden Boot redden the asses of all those who piss you off. $Amen$

I never tell anyone to read this or that book, watch this or that movie. Why would they think some silly movie would make a difference?

I have a suggestion….Steer clear of religious discussions? 🙂 Try politics …….

Politics here gets even worse. After a few exchanges, it becomes tribal

I was kidding ! I try to avoid politics, religion and sex as I generally offend someone 🙂

Since most of my friends and family are atheists, or very ‘religious-lite’, I don’t encounter this very often. Even my catholic-in-theory mother is capable of launching a string of Jesus jokes that would make you blush. 😉

Now, those are the friends to have. My immediate family has adopted a good policy, to each his/her own

You and me both. They don’t seem to realize how annoying their presumptions are. I sometimes think that hearingirritating blather about what would convert me to some true faith is what led me to reject all faith (but of course it was more complicated than that).
I do remember one wonderfully amusing experience I had once, when a Hari Krishna came up trying to sell me a flower, only to be interrupted by a Mormon trying to get me to see the light. Oh the argument they had! It was delightful.

That was an experience to be video recorded

Shouldn’t that include getting up early on Sunday morning?

At least none tries to wake me up early on Sunday

I understand and agree with you completely, my Nairobi brother. I do believe this is a UN: universal nuisance. I think that all they do is re-blog their arguments! Have a great weekend, my friend! Enjoy! 🙂

Enjoy too. UN- a good term that is.

I don’t encounter the “you hate god” comments, but do get the “I’ll pray for you” ones. I always want to say, “Would you tell me the exact words so I can track the progress.” But I don’t.

hahaha.
Next time I will say that to whoever offers to pray for me

Living in the south, where 99% of the population has a bible crammed up their ass, you get a lot of “God bless” or “Have a blessed day.” I just bite my tongue, and try not to be offensive. Sometimes that works, sometimes I leave a smart ass remark that leaves them looking odd.
Then there are people you may know, you run into them and the conversation quickly turns to jeebus, or church, I’m like, and not too subtly, “Damn! Look at the time, gotta run”
These people annoy the hell out of me.

A few days ago I had a guy tell me to find Jesus. He wore such a serious face while I was the whole time smiling. He didn’t look too happy when he left.
