The regular readers of this site know my position on freewill. In this talk, Gregg Caruso explores the negative side of the belief that we have freewill.

I need to think about this and watch it again. The captioning leaves a few gaps (not your fault). I’ll get back to this after work.
In the meantime, have a terrific weekend, my Nairobi brother! Be safe! Much love and naked hugs! ๐

Good video. I agree with this fellow. He has excellent points. Primarily, because I agree with them. ๐ Also, because I know for a fact you can not buy a “will” any where for less than 7.98. That, by no definition is free. The best deal I got on a “will” was the time I bought mine, used, from a “Used Will” store. I paid 7.97 for it, a penny less than the going rate, but still, not free. Thus, free will is a myth. Unless you steal one, but that’s a crime, and without a “will” you couldn’t commit the crime of stealing one. There is no free will. ๐

Where to start? I have laughed my ass off! You are hilarious. So someone sold you a used will? Has it served you well? Will you sell it once it is no longer helpful to you?

Well, it kinda squeaks at night when I roll over on it, but otherwise it functions fine. I’m just as poor and confused about things as I was before I bought it. I’d buy a brand new one, but I can’t afford one. Guess I just lack the “will” power to become a millionaire. Cheap ass used will!

If you should know where brand new ones are sold, let me know. And talking of brand new things, have you heard this Bob’s song?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFWmrzE1zww

Bravo! Parents look at me strange whenever I tell them that I do not teach my kids “what goes around comes around” or “you reap what you so”. I tell them that’s all bull shit because I’ve seen how it not only victim blames, but it’s not true. One day I walked with another mom who talked about Karma. I asked her if she thought children of sexual abuse “deserved” what they got. She stopped walking, had her mouth hung wide open and said “I never thought of it like that before!”

Hi Noel, indeed it was.
I also know that in the U S we have some private businesses running our prison system. How are we justly judging anyone when our intent is clouded by greed?
Children need to learn the importance of thinking for ourselves and doing what is right out of bettering ourselves as we look at others through the eyes of empathy.
Love and understanding leads us to peace.

Yes, that one. How can we tell the intent is to rehabilitate and not make money off those who have broken the law?

Finally got a chance to watch the video Mak, and it was very good. Sam Harris has a similar talk but his was about 40 minutes. This guy got the same thing out in 25% of the time. ๐ I have no idea if determinism is correct or not, but the perspective in the video seems a very healthy one whether or not it is correct. Thanks for posting this.

Am glad you found it informative.
I have been meaning to read freewill by Harris but have not got myself to doing it.
The ideas presented here are good whether determinism is true or false
