On equality

By equality, we should understand, not the degrees of power and riches are to be absolutely identical for everybody ; but that power shall never be great enough for violence,  and shall always be exercised by virtue of rank and law; and that in respect of riches, no citizen shall ever be wealthy enough to buy another, and none poor enough to be forced to sell himself.

  2. Another great saying. So true, and yet, still so unrealized in our world today.

Sorry again, but when social equality and justice have to be explanatorily”amended”, they will have lost their true meaning, turning into useless slogans good to soothe the underprivileged majority…

very nice find. how is there equality with rank?

i have no experience of any two people being treated equally and I think rank tilts the scale in favour of the titled one

thanks Noel. wasn’t sure if I was reading that right. I thought the same thing, but also allowed for not taking an extremely literal approach. I can see different ranks as equals, but at some point rank will create an inequality because of its very nature; however I also agree that all should be safe and happy regardless of position. great quote.

If we concentrated on doing what we could to uphold these objectives, then wouldn’t we all be better off. Not sure Big Corp would ever buy into these notions somehow.
