when the questions that come from my head are those odd ones. Am not saying am bored now, no, far from it but I have been thinking
- if men were born as adults would they know how to work?
- would they understand what it means to feel pain?
- generally, what would happen to us were we born adults?
In my view, before I hear your answers/ questions, men would be useless. Thank goodness nature starts with babes so that we learn gradually as we grow older.
Perhaps the term “adult” needs to be defined better here: Does it refer to physical size (people tend to get bigger physically with age), or does it refer to chronological age (hard to imagine a 30 year old new born adult, but still), or does it refer to mental acuity (capacity for rational thoughts and decisions)?

You have just complicated the question. In this case born with a mental acuity of a 30 year old

Consider the situation A&E if they were, could be like having been created as fully grown adults but not having learnt what pain is or pleasure. How would such a person be?

But when those babes get so indoctrinated that they can’t learn anything or think anything. 😦 They then never become adults. 😦

Hmm. I imagine we would be more like the rest of the animal kingdom. Instinct would become far more important. Many of the biases and thought process developed in our youth and dependent on childhood would be altered. Perhaps we would be more independent? Less tribal?

The rest of the animal kingdom have their young ones born without knowledge as our young ones so to speak.

True, but they mature much faster. The part of your question that stands out to me is the idea of age that lacks experience. Most animals are ‘adults’ before they spend too much time in the care of their parents.

You are right M and they too die sooner than we

Indeed. Our brains require all the extra attention from our parents, but they’ve extended our life span incredibly with what they’ve discovered.

Whereas we may have managed to extend our lifespan for a great number of people, for most this has just lengthened the period of their misery. They would have been better dying young or sooner

As far as pain, I think it would be less understood and more fear-oriented. But pain would be experienced nonetheless and less worrying as the adults aged.

1.) They’d know how to work at giving their mother’s A LOT of pain. Birthing a full grown adult? OUCH!!!
2.) Their mother’s sure as f*ck would. Again, OUCH!!! Rip, tear, hemorrhage! OUCH!!
3.) if we were born as adults, we’d first have A LOT of blood and gore to clean off, so first up is shower. Then we’d act like the babbling idiots we act like when born as infants. And, as many women might agree, men indeed would be damned useless, just like now. Little would change, other than the gory mess that is. 🙂

they might not know how to, but would pick it up as necessary. their development would move quicker because they don’t have to wobble and pee themselves as long since they’d have bodies ready to function on a higher level once the my lacked are trained. same with their minds. you’d have a learning curve, but it should be shorter. I think it’d be like being dropped in a foreign country and having to do work you’ve never done. there’d be knew muscle memories to develop, culture to absorb, and language to learn, but you’re ahead of the game compared to infants with longer time needed to grow and develop motor skills and reasoning.

Why do you think nature prefers to have us born amoral, without beliefs even knowledge of self?

morality is subjective. hasn’t a thing to do with nature 🙂

sorry have to answer in separate box-wordpress won’t let me refer back to post.
regarding understanding pain, it’s the nervous system. understanding is built into the feeling. I’m going to get ouch when you pinch me regardless of age. feedback is instant.

Just as I asked previously, feedback is instant yes, but will they know what to do?

they’d learn it just as other animals do. you start with what you need to survive and move on from there. some instincts we have like sucking chewing sucking or drinking seeking warmth-the basics get you to water and food. over time other things develop. having adult bodies, progress is quicker thanks to coordination and strength.

other animals start as babes too. It is with experience that they learn. To be born with the knowledge without the experience wouldn’t prepare one for life.
the question isn’t about having an adult body but an adult mind without the experience
LikeLike
no, i mean without having to physically develop into adult strength, born adults would be faster at adapting. they aren’t born with knowledge necessarily, but with physical capabilities more quickly ready to use, the learning will come quicker. mind and body connection is inevitable.

Interesting question, Noel. I haven’t read all the comments, so not sure if anyone touched on this. My immediate thought was Adam and Eve being created as adults. Now, if this were the case (and we know it’s a myth), but hypothetically, if this were the case, then their prefrontal cortex (critical assessment) would have probably been fully developed (it’s not in childhood) which would explain why Eve went against Yahweh’s orders. She knew something was amiss. 😉 Really pissed Yahweh off, didn’t it? 😀

This is an interesting thought. Being created adults they would have a fully developed rational system. My feeling is we develop this overtime so being born with a fully developed one would not help them much since they wouldn’t know what to do with the information they receive?

Exactly, Noel. I was commenting in jest. But realistically speaking, it is experience that wires the brain. Here’s an image of neural circuity at birth with very little experience.

That has been the most important issue in this question, the role of experience in our learning.

Pretty much what inspiredbythedivine1 says; except they would also be immediately very horny; they would want sex, and they would want it right away. This would inevitably lead to squabbling (jealousy, etc.). The delay of puberty serves an educational purpose.
