There is a discussion going on somewhere on this blog. Our interlocutor has made a comment that I think deserves special treatment.
Hell does exist. Jesus spoke about Hell quite often. Why don’t you want Hell to exist?
If there is no Hell, then what is the point of judgement day? What is the point of working out your salvation with fear and trembling? What is the point of good and wrong, if there is no hell?
You are saying that he’ll doesn’t exist, because you don’t want to go there. But by your closing your eyes from the sun, will it make the sun stop shining?
Hell existed to Jesus….because he spoke of hell many times. Not just words but stories. For every word and action, you shall give account.
Romeo believes there is a judgement day. Hell has to exist. No hell, judgement is in vain. I think this is brilliant.

I suggest she repents and finds God. If she doesn’t accept my words, they will stand before her face on judgement day as a reminder…and boy would I not want to see her face then. It’ll be too late then.

Well, what I’m saying is that If the Torah has more weight than the NT, then she has no right to talk about love. Because, the Torah mentions nothing on Love. And if the Torah is more correct than the NT, then wouldn’t Michelle have to fulfill the whole Torah, instead of just select things?! Now, why doesn’t she do that?! You see, she even uses the NT as a reference. She even quotes scripture from the NT.
So, there are two options here:
1. Michelle has to either fulfill ALL of the Torah (Including the stoning people to death part)
2. Michelle cherry picks the Bible and accepts only that what sounds good to her ears. And we know what the Bible says about perverting the Bible, don’t we? She is wrong about the Torah being the only original and true book. It’s a straight up lie!!
She doesn’t like the idea of Everlasting burning fire Hell, because she has sins that are worthy enough for hell. She doesn’t like that, so she closes her ears to the sound of hell. She comforts herself and her wicked behavior with the idea that hell is just a grave. But, if you close your ears from danger, will that save you from the danger, or just make it worse?!
No matter how hard she tries to close her ears about the subject of hell being a tormenting fire, it’ll still keep burning; only making it worse.
Now to make it even worse, she teaches others this garbage too! And we know what Jesus said about people who do this, don’t we?
Jesus said that it’s better to tie a heavy stone around her neck and throw her into the ocean. That’s what needs to be done.
She can reject this truth how hard she wants to, but I sure wouldn’t want to see her expression on judgement day when she stands before the Lord. The Lord would ask her to give account for every word that she perverted from His Holy Word. What would she say?!

2) They were both written in Hebrew and remain so exactly as written 5,000 years later
3) Jesus was a Jew and the language of Jews is Hebrew even today
4) The Torah says Shoel and the Greeks used the word Hades which became hell and that there is no biblical significance to to hell nor is it even biblical
5) If the written Torah which is unchanged can be mistranslated then why couldn’t Jesus’s own hebrew words have been also similarly mistranslated

I believe she’s wrong about what she claims. Yes the Old Testament says grave. In the Old Testament after death people went to the place of waiting. This place was the grave.
Here’s an example:

This was in the Old Testament, before Christ came to earth.
Now in the New Testament, Jesus Himself talked about Hell, Judgement Day, Punishment, Living a Holy life, Torment, ect. It does exist. And God is love.

Jesus was a Jew, Jesus said Shoel and the dumb ass Greeks used hell yet again. Grave is only translated 3 times correctly in most old testaments. Ask any Jew and there is no lake of fire and eternal suffering. Jesus never taught this either. Because to be the messiah as professed from the Torah then he would been to bring about 100% Torah observance. See the Messiah spoken about that you assume is Jesus was the Messiah of the JEWS.
If the written word can be so mistranslated then why on earth would any sane person assume the spoken word from the same language couldn’t be or even wouldn’t be also mistranslated.

For your argument to be valid you must first assume god actually “inspired” these same people. Based on that then who would you be to say god didn’t “inspire” Mohammed?
Further more Christians believe god and the devil. What is it was “the great deceiver” who “inspired” these men? What if they just liked writing? What if no one knew homers Iliad and 1000 years later they found it and said wow god must have inspired this man?
If it is gods word explain why there are 35,000 different sects of Christians and 40 + different bibles? One would reasonably argue if it was truly the word of god that changing even a single word would be treasonous and blasphemy. Yet books have been added and removed and people still refer to it as a single bible and single work of god.

I would challenge anyone to prove exclusive divine inspiration. After all the Muslims and the Jews claim exactly the same exclusivity. To name just a few.
So how does one prove this exclusivity. I won;t even challenge the divine part for now let’s stick to the exclusivity part. Without using the bible because I can use the Torah or Quran the exact same way, prove the exclusivity claimed by Christians?

If someone tells me my vision, my words are divine inspiration I would say how do you qualify/quantify those as divinely inspired. After all Mohammed claimed divine inspiration, Budda claimed divine inspiration. Every faith known to man has claimed divine inspiration. Some claim exclusive divinity like Jews/Christians/Muslims.

He’ll exists. I’m not a Christian, but for me, hell is my maternal grandfather sexually abusing me…hell is my mother beating me and/or verbally abusing me. Those were the hells of my childhood, and yes, they were quite real.

They are called life not biblical hell. I agree life can be hell but even mine is not eternal burning in a lake of fire.
Just think of this too as Christians would have you believe. If either of them took Jesus as their lord and savior then no sin can keep them from eternal life in heaven. So were they Christian? if so they will both go to heaven because as one Christian told me “You can’t out sin the grace of Jesus.”
How pleasant is that for a thought? They put you through hell but if they are Christian they will both be in heaven!

Every time I read comments like this, I automatically think what they are really saying is — “if there is no judgement and hell, no big eye in the sky surveilling my actions and thoughts 24/7, why should I be an upstanding, ethical, humane person?”
As an aside, in the video lecture I shared with you last week about the brain and the law, a study was cited showing that the brains of people with a certain mindset (judgement and punishment) became active in the reward centers.

I just got through watching an excellent video from an ex-pastor (Jerry DeWitt) who stated that every pastor is agnostic, a skeptic, and full of doubt. I believe it. He said the more he studied religion the more of a skeptic he became. So, those “seasoned” pastors up in the pulpits? Yeah, they are telling people to have faith but they, themselves, understand what faith really is. Acting like you belief it. As DeWitt states — in secular terms, that’s called pretending.

I have no doubt that people really believe. I did. But like Dewitt, the more I studied the more questions I had, and the questions continued to accumulate. If I didn’t find a release valve soon for that pressure cooker inside my brain, I felt like I was going to explode and make one hell of a mess.
The only way — THE only way a person can continue to believe is to deny their own conscience, and acknowledge that questioning is lacking faith and lacking faith is a sure-fire ticket to hell. That’s what’s so brilliant about the methodology of Christianity — you are taught to die to yourself.

You’re probably right. I was reading a few posts on David’s blog, and one of his posts was about a women, an astrophysicist who was raised an atheist and later became a Christian after obtaining her PhD.
So I started digging to get a little background on her and sure enough, she had gotten cancer, and around the same time, her husband was on his death bed, and wasn’t expected to live.
Christianity always preys on the the most vulnerable.

I think such religions are stabilized by fear, so something like hell is a necessary construction inside such belief systems, although a loving god creating a place for eternal torture is contradictory.
Its the fear of hell that stops proper thinking since the believer is afraid to be punished for thinking the wrong thing. Take away that threat and the whole thing crumbles.

Torah = Original and was here 1500 years before Jesus was born AND predecited the Messiah. It is clearly the original OR Jesus Isn’t who he claimed to be. Because if the Torah is the fake then it’s prediction of Jesus is a fake meaning your bible is a fraud.
Old Testament = counterfeit and improperly translated to Greek. When you attempt to duplicate something and do it as poorly as the Greeks did then the counterfeit is easy to spot.

If you are to read the Torah (Original) you would see the word “grave” on its pages. And it’s the original and no one has mistranslated it. Now, IF the word “grave” means “Hell”, why hasn’t the original author of the Torah put “Hell” instead of “grave”?
