Those of you who know a little more about the world than just what happens in their neighborhood would have heard of the late Prof. Wangari Maathai and her efforts in conjunction with the Greenbelt movement to save Karura Forest.
The forest, as I discovered yesterday is a bikers paradise.

In other unrelated news, I find your knowledge of the by bowl to be so vast, how did you remain a christian for so long? I am thinking with all that knowledge of the history and circumstances in which the damn book was authored you’d have left eons ago

Mak, that is why, the moment I was prepared to actually consider the possibility I had feared to ever consider before, that it might all be false, it was like a break of a dam wall. All those issues of cognitive Dissonance came flooding through and made the breach so large.
What I have found is that belief is based on emotion not logic. That is why at moments of emotional weakness, even folk like me can be sort of drawn back into religious thinking. Then once ones emotions are back in check you realise how all the evidence points to it being false. I think Violet has had similar experiences.

Wangari Maathai was such a hero. What a woman. It’s from her that I learned that if you keep cutting down the deeply rooted forest trees, you will not only create desesertification because there are no roots to hold the soil, but the roots of these big trees break into deepdown aquifers, opening up streams that would not otherwise be there. All of which is to say, the world needs trees. Lovely post.

She was a great woman. Stood up for the trees or rather for the people. Without trees, we would have deserts, reduce the ability to produce food and chaos would ensue. She put up a good fight.

They do that over here too people think they are training for NASCAR- so anyone in their way is fair game- including cyclists and pedestrians 😨

Lol- no even on the line on the side running in the grass they drift over- probably while checking their FB status whilst driving because FB is more important than what’s going on in the road lol (at least this is what I angrily imagine as I avoid being hit on the side of the road) 😉

Very few here have guns and discharging one is a criminal offence. So before they shoot me, I have a chance to get lost in the crowd

Yes, I was having a hair-raising moment thinking of you cycling on the roads. On the rare times I drove in Kenya, I used to wish I could drive on the pavement. The little Suzuki would’ve fitted too 🙂

There are now more cyclists in Nairobi than back then. We have learnt to share the road with all these rude drivers. Once in a while I stop and ask them if they are blind, stupid or just plain arrogant.
