In 1729 a French katlick priest left behind a will or testament to his flock and humanity at large. This book has appeared in many versions; like by Voltaire making our atheist priest a deist or by D’Holdbach making him an atheist. It makes for interesting reading.
He writes among his proofs for the falsity of religion the claim that a good god would command animal sacrifice.
He writes
Blessed be the nations who treat them (animals) humanely and favorably and who take pity on their misery and pain. But, cursed be the nations who treat them cruelly, who tyrannize them, who love to spill their blood and who are hungry for their flesh.

Why is the US bombing Syria while the number of Americans killed by terrorists this year is far much lower than those killed at home by licensed gun holders, including police?

Damn if I know Mak. Best guess is the Syria thing is a terrorist farm. As in organized.
But by that same reasoning I suppose we could start bombing police stations, redneck bars, and everyone who has had any sort of mental problems.
On the serious side, it is a difficult issue with no good answers I can see offhand.
Let me tell you something that happened today, 1 day after a mass shooting that killed 14 people, and 2 terrorists.
I was on my way to pick up our youngest son from school. I met like 8 cop cars all speeding down the road with lights and sirens. They were heading N, I was heading S. My wife is a nurse who cares for a special needs child in a school back to the N. I stopped and texted her that a LOT of cops were heading her way. She texted me back the school was on lockdown! Needless to say there were a few I love yous and keep in touch texting. I was fricking worried man. I still don’t know the entire story, but I think some irate parent either had a gun, or threatened to get one, prompting the fuss. All I know for sure is she and the child are ok. I will know more when I pick her up in a bit.
I am seriously considering to start carrying my .45 everywhere I go. It has come to the point where these shootings are far too common, and you never know when it might happen right in front of you. This is nuts. But I’d rather have an option to die fighting, than die pleading.

It is something with no easy solutions, but it is time to consider those hard solutions. Arming everyone or going everywhere with loaded guns is not going to be a solution, in my view

You are probably right, perhaps my initial reaction is a bit silly. This morning as a new day dawns Im not as sure it is a good idea. But I can tell you one thing for sure. The world we live in today is nothing like the world I grew up in. There have always been bad people, and bad people do bad things. There is so much of it happeneing these days… Yesterday put me on edge.
But, if I happened to find myself in the middle of the kind of shit that has been happening, I can still say I’d rather have the option to die fighting than to die begging for my life. It is just my make up.
As a responsible gun owner, I do not want to see guns banned. How would banning firearms, when there are literally millions of them around stop the things we have been seeing? Did it help in Paris?
We need to ban the things that cause people to become to become ruthless killers. The biggest cause of that malady is religion.

First, I agree with the maxim to die fighting than on your knees. To do this, you would have at least to have been expecting the shooters and also hope that none of them sees you load your gun.
Religion is part of the problem, maybe the biggest but we still have issues of injustice and as long as these exist, there will be fights

I think, given the circumstances, we should just about all of us be expecting the shooters. While it is mostly a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, the insanity of mass shooting against soft targets is becoming more commonplace daily. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like it is no longer as random as it used to be. And with every sucessful shooting, it encourages the nuts who want to be next.
Yes injustice is widespread. It knows no bounds.
