Heathens questioning christcultists

And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.

Why had Paul or, whoever wrote the above, to defend his faith?

It can’t be said he anticipated present day heathens.

I posted this on another blog – I leave it here for your consideration:

“On that day they read from the book of Moses in the hearing of the people; and in it was found written that NO AMMONITE OR MOABITE SHOULD EVER ENTER THE ASSEMBLY OF GOD; for they did not meet the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them- yet our God turned the curse into a blessing. WHEN THE PEOPLE HEARD THE LAW, THEY SEPARATED FROM ISRAEL ALL THOSE OF FOREIGN DESCENT.”

— Nehemiah 13:1-3 Revised Standard Version (RSV) —

“No bastard shall enter the assembly of the Lord; even to the tenth generation none of his descendants shall enter the assembly of the Lord. NO Ammonite or MOABITE_ SHALL ENTER THE ASSEMBLY OF THE LORD, EVEN TO THE TENTH GENERATION NONE BELONGING TO THEM SHALL ENTER THE ASSEMBLY OF THE LORD FOREVER; because they did not meet you with bread and water on the way, when you came forth out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor…to curse you…You shall not seek their peace or their prosperity all your days for ever.”

    — Deuteronomy 23:2-3, 6 RSV —

Ruth the Moabite married Boaz, cf. Ruth 4:13-22 and 1 Chronicles 2:1-15.

“Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab, Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David.”

— Matthew 1:5,6 —

King David was of Jewish-Moabite descent, by virtue of his grandmother, Ruth, the Moabite.

Yeshua was claimed to have been a direct descendent of King David.

Either he actually was NOT a descendent of David, or he was part Moabite and by the ‘god-breathed‘ laws of Deuteronomy, forbidden to “EVER ENTER THE ASSEMBLY OF GOD“.
    [emphasis, mine]

    Food for thought —

Nehemiah, inspired by the Holy Spirit, is quite adamant about the marriage of foreign women, including Moabites, being a “treacherous sin” against God:

      Nehemiah 13:23-27 RSV
In those days also I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab…I contended with them and CURSED THEM and beat some of them and pulled out their hair; and I made them take an oath in the name of God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons or for yourselves…Shall we do all this great evil and act treacherously against our God by marrying foreign women?

DAMN those foreign women! God bless inbreeding forever!

[For a list of genetic disorders among the Jews as a result of thousands of years of inbreeding, see: Jewish Genetic Diseases]

Intra-cultural interbreeding strengthens a people, as resistances to various diseases are shared.

He wasn’t attempting to defend the idea that Jesus of Nazareth rose from the dead to an audience of non-believers. Rather, he was attempting to defend the idea that Christians would also be raised from the dead to people who already believed that Jesus had been raised.

If what you say is true, why was it necessary for him to say this in the beginning unless there were those doubting the enterprise?

      12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised;

      • In Judaism, prior to Christianity, there existed a belief that Yahweh would (at some point) resurrect all the faithful that had died in a single event. It was this General Resurrection which the Christians at Corinth had doubted, not Jesus’ specific resurrection. Paul is asking, “How can you say there is no General Resurrection of the faithful? If there is no General Resurrection, not even Christ has been raised; and since you already believe Christ has been raised, it follows that there will be a General Resurrection.”

Wasn’t Paul the guy who spread Christianity? As such, wouldn’t he have been defending his belief to pagans. I think I once heard something to the effect that there could have been a Christianity without Jesus but there could not have been a Christianity without Paul.

…Christianity is more than just the religion that Jesus preached. It is also the religion that preaches about Jesus. …it was the apostle Paul who shifted the focus of the religion from the proclamation of Jesus to the proclamation about Jesus. …without Paul, Christianity as we know it today would never have been possible, and that the Western world… would have remained firmly committed to the various polytheistic religions of the Roman empire. That’s it folks, we are done here! Pack up the tent, we are going home!

I so want to be an Ammonite or a Moabite. I should look into my geneology… Imagine the fun you could have with x-ians!

X-ian: Sir, have you heard the word of god? Ammonite/Moabite: Sorry I am an Ammonite! I have been forbidden! So stick it!
