This has me very interested.
That’s a view that had not crossed my mind. My line of reasoning has been the government doesn’t want people very happy, they may not know they are being oppressed 🙂

Yes, it’s time well spent, and David Simon is always interesting to listen to on the subject.

I heard some Republicans were whining that Obama didn’t cut-short his trip. Had to laugh.

I am still trying to understand their logic if any.

Don’t try. There is none.

That it has become a campaign issue is really shocking

The warmonger’s logic goes something like this:
If someone known attacks you, nuke ’em. If someone unknown attacks you, nuke any likely suspects in order to instill fear in all who might consider attacking you. If no one attacks you, but your friend is attacked, nuke their enemies. If no one attacks you or your friends, but you or your friends feel vulnerable to attack, nuke all your shared enemies. Nuke ’em, nuke ’em, nuke ’em!!!
Pretty simple logic, isn’t it? Unfortunately, after eliminating all your enemies, your friends will become your enemies. After your former friends are gone, then you become your only enemy. After you are gone… well, c’est la vie!

Their logic, in short, nuke them where them is everyone 🙂

Don’t you know? It’s customery when Europeans or citizens of the USA are killed to drop everything and be appalled. A thousand times more so appalled than when people die in the rest of the world. And we’re to continue unblinking with our tango.

I didn’t know this. Now I know. Should we also stop dancing and making merry till all the terrorists are caught or bombed

Only the ones in Europe or the USA. Obviously.

Watching the video that Hariod posted reminded me of this bit of news that’s gone viral in social media. Dan Baum wrote an article in Harper’s Magazine, titled “Legalize It All”, and quoted John Ehrlichman.
Ehrichman served as domestic policy chief for President Richard Nixon when the administration declared its war on drugs in 1971. According to Baum, in 1994, during an interview, Ehrlichman confessed that the drug war was a ploy to undermine Nixon’s political opposition — meaning, black people and critics of the Vietnam War:
At the time, I was writing a book about the politics of drug prohibition. I started to ask Ehrlichman a series of earnest, wonky questions that he impatiently waved away. “You want to know what this was really all about?” he asked with the bluntness of a man who, after public disgrace and a stretch in federal prison, had little left to protect. “The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people.
You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”

Excellent article, Mak.

This is interesting Victoria. I think most times the people who make laws are stupid.

I agree that drugs should be decriminalized. Yes, I know heroin will destroy a person, but anyone who chooses to do that to their body also chooses to deal with the consequences. Heroin (cocaine, methamphetamine, crack, mescaline, mushrooms) has never been my thing, but who am I to say what other people should or shouldn’t do in their own homes.

I agree with you Cara. I am not about to try heroine because it is legal. They keep people in jail for smoking weed. How silly

I agree with the decriminalization of drugs. Oh, don’t worry about anything Obama does. Once ‘lil Donnie Trump becomes President, everything will be fine in the world. Why? Well, because ‘lil Donnie promises to make America great again. ‘Nuff said.

Thanks for the reassurance. Drumpf will nuke all the terrorists and build a wall a long the border leaving room only for domestic terrorists 🙂
