This is a very interesting question coming from Obama.
Those who claim America is a Christian nation must explain what verses should make it to the constitution.

“Pluralistic society”, I’ve never heard that term. However, I like it. I wish I could effectively convey that concept to the locals here. Even my atheist husband still believes “majority rules”. I tell him he doesn’t really feel that way because our family’s clearly in the minority in tiny town west Tennessee, here in the USA. I guess old habits die hard.
I so desperately want my children to live in a different world than what I did at their age. It’s a shame that people are so reluctant to evolving. All I ask of them is to accept the fact that different faiths and secularism exist. Don’t be so rigid when it comes to politics and legislation.

I have come to be quite understanding of others. They could actually be ignorant of the existence of people with a differing belief.

I’ve lived in an officially “bicultural pluralistic” society for the first four decades of my life and over the last two and a half decades I’ve seen it transform into a multicultural pluralistic society. While some can find the change unsettling I find it the opposite. As diversity increases I find that I feel less different than I did in the past.

I can relate to that, Barry. I’m white with dark hair, dark features and a mild Yankee accent. Although my genealogical roots are here in the Midsouth, my voice, features and opinions do not mesh with the locals. No one can figure out where I’m originally from and occasionally, they question my ethnicity. I’ve always gotten along better with Blacks, Hispanics, Hawaiians, Japanese, and British men and women, as well as progressive Christians, and New Agers. This was true throughout much of my conservative Christian years as well. As a result, I too tend to feel at home when I’m surround by people of different races and mindsets.

According to the GOP elite, Obama is an atheist AND a devote Muslim. And you wonder how Trump became their nominee, eh?

You can be an atheist Muslim, it’s much like being a communist fascist ๐

Well don’t you understand unless he is supporting the U.S. as a 100% Christian Nation, it must be because he is really a Muslim.
I spent some time, when still a Christian trying to persuade a Christian Fundamentalist friend that Obama was a Christian, but this friend was absolutely convinced he was really a Muslim.

Yes! They’re the same ones who seem a little too concerned about what sex Michelle Obama was born as. I’m like “does it really even matter?”

Are you saying her sex has been questioned?

There are people who believe she was born a man and now lives her life as a woman. It’s a rumor that has gone around for years. People around here are particularly fond of spreading it.

And how do they explain the daughters? Adopted or what?

Surrogate, possibly Michelle’s mother.

I don’t know Charity, but I think there is a demographic that either lost their mind or didn’t have one from the very beginning.
When did she start living as a woman? Before they got married or after? Do they have photos of her as a boy? I can’t even wrap my head around it

I tell you the truth when I speak about the ignorance here. Personally, I find her beautiful and think she’s the classiest first lady since Jackie Onasis. I’m not even an Obama fan and still feel that way about her. She was elegant to me while I was still a Christian as well. Personally, I don’t mind if she is or is not transgender. Who says that only females can be beautiful? The most beautiful birds in nature are males…peacocks, cardinals and pheasants, etc.

I’m like you, Mak. I never heard any of this until recently. Maybe it has something to do with her showing off her bare and muscular arms (gasp!) that she gained through regular exercise. Or simply because she’s black. I mean, to some people, the color of your skin automatically includes a multitude of defects.
I’m with Charity. She is one classy lady and has never once done anything to discredit her position as the wife of POTUS.

I wondered if it was because she was so tall. I remember seeing a picture of Michelle Obama next to Queen ELizabeth. The Height difference was staggering.
But there have been tall women before. Indeed the Margaret Whitlam the wife of an Australian Prime Minister in the 1970’s was 6′ 2″.
I must admit I had not heard the Michelle Obama rumours before.

One that’s just as good, if not better, is that Obama was once a gay, male prostitute. I’m not making this up. Simply amazing what crap conservatives come up.

There are people throughout the US who find ways to intimidate humans who are different from them. If attacking your family/family name doesn’t work in taking you down they go after your personal character. If they can’t tear your marriage apart they go after you or your spouse’s sexuality or gender. If you’re somehow successful in kindness and/or honesty they see to it that they belittle you because you lack financial success. If they don’t like your politics they go after your philosophical/religious ways and question your morality.

Aw, Noel, you know I love ya’! I’ll probably do a disappearing act here for a few weeks or so. I’m kind of feeling like I need a bit of a break from blogs. You know I still have some anxiety and it needs some attention. Besides, there’s much that needs to be taken care of in my everyday life.
I will say the deep tissue massages are helping me to sleep MUCH better. I also really like my therapist. She looks and talks a bit like Amy Schumer. She’s chillax and has always been secular. The only down side is that I feel as though I need a glossary of terms to explain my religious past to her. She is in no rush for EMDR therapy. She is aware that trust needs to established first.
I think you’re a great guy and I get a little sad sometimes that the most amazing people I know live hundreds to thousands of miles away. Still, I appreciate you being on the other side of my computer.
Have a good weekend, dear friend.

Conservatives managed to twist that speech around to inflame people, all because he didn’t say that the U.S. is a Christian nation. As for the substance of what he’s saying, it’s fairly common knowledge.
