Here is a video on the reflections of a 90 year old Jewish woman on her life’s experiences as she prepares to try bacon for the first time.
For those not internet savvy, Ark, I am looking at you, this should have the directions
I particularly like her comment on faith. She says, and I agree, it doesn’t take courage to have faith.
Weird. Boring, and weird. Good that she finally tries to eat dead pigs. Great achievement at 90. I mean if that is what she wants to achieve, what a repressed life.
But, did you watch her walking down the street? At 90? Was that truly her? Looked like a 20-year-old.

I did a lot of listening and little watching.
Maybe for her eating dead pigs represents freedom from the chains of religion

Nice house. Rich Yids. Eat dead pigs. She hasn’t got rid of the headscarf yet. Did you see how she walked? That wasn’t the gait of a 90-year-old woman. It was just utterly weird. Talking pig’s head was like Naked Lunch.

I think she has been jogging 🙂 she seems to be walking too fast unless it has been enhanced to get her wherever fast.

Seas, I think you’re missing the point. This woman’s aunt got her tongue cut out of her mouth for eating non-kosher food when she was a child. Can you see how this woman eating non-kosher food is a huge, huge statement?

You and I are from different ends of the spectrum. You as a deconvert, me a lifelong agnostic/atheist, feminist and vegetarian for xx years. I can see why you applaud her. That doesn’t invalidate my pov though. So, I understand your comment below, but, we all have our causes in life. FWIW loads of non strict Jews eat pigs. Just like loads of Muslims drink alcohol and smoke dope. Maybe eat pigs too for all I know.
I think we can agree on one thing. Indoctrination :(. My Jewish neigbour’s daughter hasn’t been out of university for a year. She’s now married and living in Israel. Arranged religious marriages are alive and well. And do nothing, but nothing, for women.

I thought arranged marriages ended or at least are only practiced by a small minority

They’re pretty much practiced only by the ultra-Orthodox.

Would have an idea of what % of such marriages last?

No idea. Robert Epstein seems to have done some research on this topic. link
I’ve only known one Jew who married via matchmaking and they’re still married as far as I know.

It’s amazing, isn’t it?
Razzie leaves home (6:53 – 7:05) in either a dress or skirt. Yet mere seconds later she’s walking down the street in wide-legged pants. And later still (7:38 – 7:45) she’s approaching the diner in leggings. At the lunch counter (7:50 – 8:00) she sports youthful hands, painted nails and a ring, quite unlike those seen at 5:25 – 5:30.
This truly must be a sign of divine intervention.

I love her comment “I wasn’t struck down by the heavy arm of the lord.” living til 90 and still willing to learn. Cheers for her!

I thought it was a great video…I love how she found “The Google” and everything changed! To free yourself from a repressive religion at age 90 is a TREMENDOUS achievement, one which I’m not sure lifelong atheists will fully appreciate. While I understand vegans don’t approve of meat, for her I can only assume bacon did indeed represent freedom from chains. For a deconvert this is a very inspiring video.

Agreed. The fact that she allowed her searches on “The Google” to take her from Julia Child to Christopher Hitchens is quite impressive. As a deconvert, I truly appreciate her accomplishment at this point in her life.
Thanks for sharing, Noel.

I really liked that, and really like how enlightened this woman has become at age 90. It reminds me of the time I first embraced my atheism by eating a christian baby. Tossing off the chains of my christian upbringing and embracing the life of an immoral, cannibalistic atheist was the best decision I’ve ever made. I never thought food could taste this good. 🙂

Hahahaha.
That must have been real freedom

Is eating bacon for a Jew the same as getting circumcised for a Christian? Can either cure cancer?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Just an educational side note: circumcision is not part of new testament christianity. Circumcision gained popularity around the 1960s-70s for “health concerns,” which have now been proven bunk. These days you can barely find a doc to perform circumcision and insurance won’t cover the surgery.

V, if Jesus was circumcised, why would Christians not circumcise unless we all agree that Christianity as practiced is a Pauline invention

Well of course it’s all a bunch of idiocy! I’m so happy to be able to say that now. 😀

Thx. Guess that’s what I get for not reading the “instructions” above. :-\
Now I’m running into playback problems. Keeps stopping and starting. I usually have great connection??? Maybe I’m just not destined to watch this video. Guess I’ll just “vicariously” watch it through the various comments. 🙂

Thanks, Ron. This one worked. Weird video. But it does goes to show you that “god” doesn’t strike 90-year old ladies dead for eating bacon. 😉

He doesn’t, but something kept that lady supine for the vast majority of the video. Coulda been the invisible hand of Yahweh keeping her from sitting upright. Coulda been. No, really, it coulda been.

Well, according to the good book, that’s because “the Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy…not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” 🙂

BUT … did she repent for eating the bacon? No! She thought it tasted pretty damn good.

Because god blessed this particular bacon. 😉

Have to admit that while I am too lazy and epicurean to take the plunge and become a Vegetarian, when one meets pigs in a decent environment (like a very organic-biodynamic winery-farm in the country) it is hard to think of eating such a personable and friendly beast.
On the other hand, these pigs have a pampered live. They are not tortured in any way. If we were not eating them, would they exist?

That’s an interesting question. I doubt they would exist

I liked the calm rational way she spoke. Things that I would expect to have lot of emotion she handed calmly, with humor, and well. Which when you think she is going against so many years of teaching…I was impressed. Hugs
