Is this then used for the priest’s Merccedes car? What is the “church project”?

… they could improve it by turning it into real indulgences, promissing instant forgiving of all sins. The Catholic church used to be very successful with that business model (although it contributed to some people breaking away from them), see for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Tetzel

That was interesting, especially his getting a beating for future sins.
I think that model is still employed by some churches who offer prayers for the sick in exchange for some amount of money

Some churches are obviously businesses, but you could extend this way of thinking to include some “spiritual currency” that people are saving in their celestial accounts. You pay into it by some actions and you withdraw (and even get into the minus) by some others. You can change some money in normal currency into money in celestial currency, and the whole point of religion is to become rich (in the other world if you are a layperson, and in this world if you are a priest). The money exchangers (priests), of course, will always make profit.
In legal terms, it is fraud, of course.

There lies religion at its most basic form. All of the bullshit removed. They want something for nothing.

I think I’m going to try and become one of the “pastors” at that church (they have many to choose from) and get in on the profits!

    Hallelujah!
