In a day or two I will write a review of The African Origin of Civilization: Myth or Reality. While you wait for that, in referring to a seminal work, Race et Intelligence, he writes, quoting Jacquard
determining intelligence with IQ is as ridiculous as confusing rectal temperature with health. The real problem is to understand why some people pose this question. Their true aim is to justify social inequalities by means of alleged natural inequalities.
Diop,Cheikh Anta. Civilization or Barbarism, pg65
Intelligent people think for themselves, that’s an easy one. You don’t need an IQ of 150 to do that. You need determination, self-confidence, and a healthy dose of questioning cynicism..

I have found that those who introduce the topic of IQ really can’t wait for you to ask what theirs is. . . I’m with roughseas.

I have a daughter who maintains IQ was invented by men who wanted to have another reason to divide people into “Us” and “Them”. . ๐

Possibly not, but they sure as hell tell the rest of us how to tie our shoelaces.

A Canadian study published in the journal Neuron concluded that the IQ test is fundamentally flawed, finding that the questions posed in the test grossly oversimplify the abilities of the human brain.
Basically, IQ tests simply measure how well Westerners might do in Western schools.

$Amen$ to that quote. Couldn’t agree more with this sentence: “Their true aim is to justify social inequalities by means of alleged natural inequalities.” This is a statement you’ll never hear uttered by a white supremacist.

IQ and intelligence seem to be terribly poor indicators of the impact we are capable of having on the world.

I have met several with supposed high IQ’s & they seemed less intelligent than the average person when it came to common sense. Almost as if they think they are beyond the lowly common thinking, & the real way of things.

Hahaha. That, I think happens a lot

There are indeed some people who are very intelligent and who don’t have much awareness of the world around them. However, there are people who are very intelligent and also are as adept with the physical world as they are with the world of the mind.
I know I’m much smarter than others. IQ test can, though not always, quantify that. I know my husband is much smarter than me. To claim that there are no differences in intelligence seems rather silly and certainly not supported by evidence. There is indeed an “us” and “them”, albeit on a huge range.

No one is claiming there are no differences in intelligence, whatever that is, between people, the question here is whether this differences are to be explained at racial level?

I’m sorry if I misunderstood, but it seems that the comments are about the lack of differences and the idea of it being racebased has been left behind.

Adults were in charge of their children & had to keep them in line in public, or be ostracized.
If a kid did something bad, other adults would get after them, & then they’d get it again, when their parents found out.

Which is why I’d never have kids if I was starting out now.
I don’t think kids should be in charge of my life, dictate my spending, & make me go into debt so they can be “fashionable”.
They don’t need personal phones, tv’s, stereos, computers, game consoles, etc., all in their own double-size bedroom, with their own bathroom.
I still have the old idea that adults are in charge & the kids should be doing as their told.

Children need to live like kings. Call the shots and so on. If you live in Utopia, that is.

Perhaps it if we pray hard and long enough, the Great Spirit of Resurrection (you know, the one who took over JC’s body) will raise CS to his former glory. Ya’ think?
P.S. It’ll probably never happen because those nasty stepbrothers gained considerable control after CS’s demise. ๐ฆ

We must also believe correctly. Praying alone will not be enough. I think this project is doomed from the start

The difficulty of common sense Nan, is that it is not common. I like the way the Dutch say it: gezond verstand = healthy sense.-
I don’t know what my IQ is and now, thanks to this thread, I’m less interested than ever to measure it. .-

You have lived a long and illustrious life, good friend. Why need you worry about such a small detail as IQ? I, for myself, can’t see a good reason

Thanks for the compliments on my illustrious life ๐ But I might like a p.s. to my epitaph reading, for example, ‘in the nick of time, he knew that his IQ exceeded 120 (km/hour)’. .-

The bigger difficulty is that Common Sense was obese and died of cardiovascular disease from larding himself up over the decades to include too many things that are actually not very sensible. Like “women must obey their husbands”. “Blacks are obviously inferior” etc. etc.
Even a lot of the “children obey adults” stuff has its questionable attributes.
