Galen, a 2nd century Greek philosopher, reduced the traits of the black person to two
- Inordinate length of his penis
- Hilarity, strong propensity for laughter
And since then every racist has worked hard to make these the only or main characteristics of the black person.
It has been said Diop in his writings came out strongly in his defense of the black African. I don’t know how one would respond to this passage from Count Arthur J. Gobineau, who wrote
Whence this rigorous conclusion that the source from which the arts have sprung is alien to the civilizing instincts. It is hidden in the blood of the Blacks.
[..]thus the Black possesses to the highest degree the sensual faculty without which art is not possible ;and, on the other hand, the absence of intellectual aptitudes renders him completely unfit for the culture of the arts, even for the appreciation of what this noble application of the human intelligence can produce of significance. In order to develop his faculties, he must ally himself with a differently gifted race..
The artistic genius, equally foreign to three great types, has manifested itself only after the marriage of Blacks and Whites.
That, my friends is part of the literature written about the Black African not so long ago. I think it will take a long time to correct such a view.
Why do Africans have long pens? Surely one only needs a very small nib.

The daft thing is we must all be black. We all came out of the Great Rift, and then some of us faded as we headed to northern lands. And if our skin colour faded – I wonder what else faded along the way – for some of us (too many) it was obviously a sense of fellow humanity and common decency.

I think you have a point. Many lost common decency and fellow humanity.
It has made it possible to enslave entire populations, kill them and still feel one has done humanity a service.

Yes that shows a particularly deficient mentality on behalf of the perpetrators who think so highly of themselves.

I’m not sure those views will ever be completely eradicated. Racists use them as buoys to keep them afloat in a sea of common sense and decency. Until common sense and decency produce waves so strong no such buoy can hope to stay afloat, they’ll always be there, calling out to the racists to take hold. I’m deeply pessimistic when it comes to any improvement in this matter. Brexit and the tRump campaign in America all but prove to me xenophobia, racism, and human idiocy are growing cancers in the world, and no form of chemotherapy will ever wipe them out.

How is that humans are capable of walking on the moon and when it comes to relating to each other we are so incapable.

Normally I don’t consider the size of a friend’s penis. Should you like to know my preferences I can give more detail, however I think it inappropriate here. However I don’t associate length or width with er anything really.
I do think laughter is good and I hope we have that between us. But it is hardly a racial trait.
As for the comment about Brexit, being about racism, there is far more involved. Live here and know what it means before judging.

It has never been a part of our discussion to find out how endowed one is. It would be such a quick way to move from friendly discourse to fistfight.
Oh yeah, we pay humorists to make us laugh. It can hardly be a bad thing and I don’t know how it became a racial trait.
On Brexit. I think there is more involved.

Large breasts, large penis, so what? Irrelevant. Well, unless that’s how you view people.
I don’t pay anyone to make me laugh. Most people don’t amuse me (Queen Victoria and all that).
There is. Much, much more.

There is a segment of the population that pays to watch comedians. I think they are unable either to laugh at themselves or too busy to find time to laugh.

There is, but only part, as is true of the tRump movement here. My years living in England taught me much, and my grandparents still live there as has my family for generations. Before one thinks I’ve not lived where I’ve lived, and when, and what my nationality and heritage is, consider that you may be a know-it-all fancy pants who pre-judges without facts and comes across as a bigot, one filled with prejudice and ignorance. Or, one can simply mind one’s own business unless one is being addressed. See, two can make smart-ass, passive-aggressive remarks.

There have been reports that racial attacks have increased since the vote. It is impossible to exclude the problem of race.
How tRump got to where he is should be a national embarrassment. But maybe not strange for a country that will look the other side while Saudi Arabia commits human rights violations as long as business goes on.
There is a big problem in our times. Maybe it’s always been this way. And there will be no solution to hope for.

Well, well, well. Ms know-it-all fancy pants whom prejudges without facts and comes across as a bigot filled with prejudice and ignorance still lives in Europe. Which is more than ‘I lived there once’ and ‘my grandparents still live there’. Really? How old are you! That might explain a lot.
Grandparents? Jeez mine died in the 70s. Or is this another quaint little rumour? Either way, inspired Jeff don’t fucking talk the walk when you don’t have a clue what is going on in the UK and Europe. Or do you?

You never have. You’ve abused me twice before. But let’s be clear. I grew up in a Paki area. It’s actually totally Sharia now. So, I know a bit about that. Shall we say 20 plus years?
I note in your rant about your relative you don’t even mention it was sexist and misogynist. Can you only focus on racism?
Don’t ever accuse British people of racism when you don’t know what you are talking about. How many foreigners get into America? Ha tee fucking ha.

Everyone everwhere has some degree of racism. No argument. Apart from you of course.
In the UK, we have had waves of immigration. In my area, firstly Irish, then Pakistani and Indian. But, the insults are the other way round now with Sharia law.
How did your grandparents vote? Leave? Remain?
Brexit is about far more than pakis. Honestly. If that’s all you see it as you are missing the plot.

Let’s hope so. My niece was born, and lived, in London for years. She’s half Indian on her mother’s side, but continually was called a “Paki bitch” by bigots there, even though she was born in England, is a citizen of the country and has 0% Pakistani blood in her. It is a problem that’s been around for some time but recent events have given new voice and new courage to its practitioners. tRump and Brexit, though multilayered in cause and meaning, are also, without much doubt, xenophobic, nationalist, racist movements. “Kick that fuckin’ Paki bitch out” is another lovely chant my niece grew up with. Lovely. Simply lovely.
