what about the menz

I need guidance on a matter that confuses me daily.

There has been this twitter hashtag and I want to know if it is in order to contend that there is a problem with this blanket statement?

https://twitter.com/Lolita_Beau/status/798912253189832704

Does questioning the veracity of that statement equate to offering tacit support for misogyny, gender violence especially directed at women or is it possible to have this debate that there is a problem in society and acknowledge that men or women for that matter are not trash?

To add some context to why I am asking,

and my response

So now, is this a case of what about the menz? Is by disagreeing with such blanket statements mean I don’t recognize the problem?

Don’t do twitter so can’t really comment, other than to say it all sounds a bit odd to me.

  4. Blanket statements of any kind are 100% wrong. To argue that blanket statements aren’t always 100% wrong is 100% wrong. I hate blanket statements entirely. They all are wrong and they all stink. Blankets are for beds, not for making statements. This is always true 100% of the time. Absolutely!

  5. There is another hashtag called #KillAllMen

It’s being taught in schools that we live beneath a white, capitalist, patriarchy and everyone who isn’t white, cis or a man is being oppressed.

It’s okay to be sexist or racist towards these classes because they have the power and are oppressors. This is called power + prejudice = racist paradigm. You just happened to run into it on Twitter, but it’s happening fairly frequently in society.

It’s not okay to broad brush people, and in this case they’re being sexist, but because it’s against men they think it’s okay.

If the hashtag was “all men are dogs” I could get on board with that. Arroooo!

I’d disagree with “all men are trash”

The “MenAreTrash” hashtag is despicable, and not reflective of the thoughts of most women.

  9. No, by disagreeing with that blanket statement doesn’t mean you aren’t recognizing “the problem” because there is no problem. The previous comments accurately explained why.

But, I’d like to shed a little light on the cultural angst some women have towards men in general. It has to do with biology. In mammals, sexual reproduction typically takes place between the larger female population and a much smaller segment of the male population. The victors of male competition tend to be bigger, stronger, faster, and more aggressive. Although human sexuality is complicated by a much more complex social organization as well as more complex psychological behaviors, this basic primeval interaction between the sexes still persists in humans. Statistically, women are more likely to mate with aggressive men than not; and, aggressive men are generally perceived as more self-centered, domineering, lacking compassion, etc.

Bob, from what I’ve read women tend to be attractive to dominant males during ovulation, but do not generally consider them as long-term mates.

      ————

“The study conducted by UCLA researchers analyzed several published and unpublished studies on women’s mate preferences and how they evolve and change during their menstrual cycle.

The UCLA study’s findings hint that ovulating women are leaning more towards mates who display sexy traits like a masculine body and facial features, as well as certain smells and dominant behavior. The desire for these masculine characteristics by women do not last all month, however, and are dominant only during her menstrual cycle.

      [snip]

According to the researchers, the shift in mate preference by women can be pinned to an “evolutionary adaption.” [snip] Therefore, as a result, female ancestors were likely attracted to physically stronger-looking men, fueled by the notion that the offspring would be strong and would survive.”

That statement sounds rather sexist to me. Consider what would happen if you started a WomenAreTrash hashtag. That might trigger a shit storm. I we take equal rights for men and women serious then we must consider this hashtag to be sexist because it makes a general, negative statement about one of the sexes. It is also contemptuous. I don’t think it is OK to call anybody “trash”. Moreover, by doing so, perhaps because you are angry with particular people, you make a generalizing statement that is not justified. Women using this hash tag are putting themselves on a low moral level, comparable perhaps to that of those men they are angry about.
