Dr Ben Carson has destroyed the applicability of the saying as it required us to accept the premise that brain surgeons were smart people.

I heard a talk he grave in a church. Dr Cason is a seventh Day Adventist who are Young Earth Creationists. But ironically they have a tradition of running hospitals.
Dr Carson in his talk confirmed that he too was a YEC. But then he lost credibility in my eyes by selectively quoting from Dr Francis Collins. Dr Carson implied that Collins supports YEC, when in fact Collins is the champion of Theistic Evolution. Collins concluded that Evolution was a scientific fact so to reconcile this with Christianity Collins claimed that ‘guided’ evolution was the method ‘God’ used.

I have DVD documentary on Dr Carson called ‘gifted hands’. Dr Carson describes a ‘miracle’ where ‘God’ helped him perform successfully an operation that did not seem possible. I reflected on that if it were truly a miracle then the operation would not have been required.

Poverty is a perpetual state of empty wallet and little hope to do anything about it.
The depression that arises from the empty wallet state is an after the fact condition, not a state of mind beforehand. That depression feels as thick as molasses. Have experienced it, this is why I can tell you.
I have been there. You feel like the entire weight of the world lies upon your shoulders and you have little to no prospects for improvement and nowhere to turn. The key is getting a chance for improvement, recognizing the opportunity, and taking advantage of the opportunity. Opportunities are out there, hard to find sometimes, but they are there if you will look.
My personal experience/opinion does not in any way mean I agree with anything this dim bulb has to say. Ameoba laugh at how stupid Ben Carson is…
As to my experience, granted I was a young man with my future ahead of me, but we (my immediate family) were dirt poor and destitute for some time. I can still remember people looking down their snooty noses at us because we were poor. Anyway my opportunity to improve my condition rolled along, I recognized the opportunity and made the best of it. Have the bad back to prove it. But I can tell you now I can spot a snoot nosed judgemental some bitch from a 1/4 mile away and most of them have bibles crammed up their asses.
Did that make me an atheist? No, lack of substance did that…

Even though that part of life is decades behind me, and I managed to scratch out a respectable existence for myself and family, it honestly is a stigma that still haunts you to some extent.
It is a fact that many people live in an equilibrium that could easliy be disrupted and send their lives into a poverty state. One broken leg, one financial disaster, one extended illness, is all it would take to find yourself in a downward spiral.
In my families case it was economics that drove us down. I grew up in an owner operator trucking family. Fuel costs skyrocketed at the time, and the loads were still paying as they were years previous. It did not take long to put a lot of owner operators out of business. Times got tough quick after that.

He was figuratively speaking of investment. Investing is a mindset. One is perpetually poor if one fails to spot opportunities or invest. Ofcourse there are also external causes of poverty like inequality, exploitation and the new world order but one’s mind is ultimately one’s weapon/shield. I’ve seen people wallow in poverty and debts their whole life simply because they have a mindset of spending all of their paycheck as soon as they recieve it. They don’t want to risk anything by investing.
As for the pyramids being used as a strategic grain reserve I’m not sure about that. Egyptologists never found grains in those pyramids.

I know of people who can’t invest even if the opportunity was brought to their doors? Why? They earn not even enough to have square meals. So I disagree with the mindset argument on that account.

Those are the external causes such as inequality, economic injustice, exploitation etc. Will they be that poor if they were educated and weren’t ignorant?

Education is one of the ways of getting people out of poverty. Education, unfortunately is not free in many places or affordable. So, they are not able to get themselves out of poverty

Exactly, so it’s a chicken and egg scenario. They are poor because they lack education and they can’t get education because they are poor. For me, all this can be traced to a vampire capitalist system…sucking the blood right out of the poor people everyday.

What meaningful interventions are there without a training in how to think. Build them a hospital they will damage it, build them a factory they will collapse it. Give them money they will waste it. Capitalism is helpful for those who have the know how and the capital. For the vast majority poor some form of mutual co-operative venture will help advance them as well as give them shared ownership of the venture (communalism). That way everyone is a part owner and receives dividends so no one profits at the peril of another. African states can draw certain useful elements from different political or economic philosophies, combine them and apply them at different levels of the African society.

Interventions where a group comes and decides these group are so poor they must need a hospital without involving the poor themselves are what lead to vandalism. It must not be assumed they do not know what they want. For any intervention to be fruitful, it should be long term, there should be synergy and must involve the poor.

Ben Carson is to the Republican party much the same as Sarah Palin. A token black person just like Sarah is a token woman. Because the skin colour means so much to them as does gender. Just like poor Sarah fits their prejudice of what a woman is, Ben fits their prejudice on a “racial” axis. Women and black men are supposed to be stupid and ignorant, though in addition women are supposed to be pretty. If these presuppositions of the world around the “white” male leaders of the Republican party (and much of their supporters and voters – be they men, women, black or what ever colour) are not fulfilled by the reality they get to alter around them, they get scared, because they have not been taught actual critical thinking skills, but to rely on their gut instinct, preassumptions and authoritarian leadership.
It is a party full of powerhungry capitalists with conservative values. In their world of today, women and black men can barely be allowed to join politics, only on the condition, that they fit their expectations of these. Ultimately the idea is to get the votes of these two groups by appealing to the notion that these people are represented in the party. But they must be even more stupid and ignorant than the bunch of “white” dudes who allow them to join and get ahead. Often this may be the case just because smart people can see this much about the party from outside and do not join.
Look at what Ben said about why the ancestors of the people with African heritage came to the US. He spouted out, that they went there to seek opportunities, freedom and pursuit for happiness, or some such nonsense. It fits perfectly to how the “whiteys” in his party would want other people to percieve their vision of revisionist history.
