is there a god?

J Krishnamuti says

In the case of the tree the object is before our eyes, and the word refers to the tree by universal agreement. Now with the word god there is nothing to which it refers, so each man can create his own image of that for which there is no reference.

I seem to recall there was/is some crowd that actually worshiped a tree as a god?

We could create our own image, but those who are imaginative don’t seem to want to, and those who seem to need a god are too lazy to bother. They think they need god, but really all they need is the stamp of some institutional body to affirm its existence for them.

  4. Oh gawd, there is no God? What shall I do? I’m so lost without Him!

I’m going to start worshiping trees, then. They are much bigger than me, very majestic, and just as silent as God. They are also beautiful and provide shade and homes for many critters. Furthermore, my lunatic neighbor wants to chop down all our lovely trees, and I oppose her on virtually everything. Hail the almighty tree!

If each person perceives of his own deity, then we no longer need any form of organized religion. Does this mean we can all go home now? Naked hugs!

If I were blind and could not see you, does that mean I did not meet you and you do not exist? If I can communicate with you and you comforted me when my son and husband both passed away within a two year period, does that mean you did it but don’t exist? See I can’t see God but I can see what is done by His hand. I don’t hear His voice but my heart feels the words. There is a God, one God, and I claim Him as mine. Your saying you don’t believe does not mean God does not exist, it simply means I have something you do not
