And protestants, as SoM used to say, are truly lost. I don’t believe that I finally agree with that fellow.
By sticking to tradition, a tradition it invented for her interests, the Catholic church, both Greek and Roman, has most faithfully preserved the spirit of early Christendom. It is no wonder, then, that it refers to tradition for the truth of its religious view of the world.
In Christ Myth, the author notes that Protestantism is completely unhistoric in passing off the gospels as the sources, as the revealed basis of the faith in Christ, as if they had arisen independently of the church.
To be Christian therefore, one must unite as a member with the church- body of Christ.
Yay, I was baptised! My bases are covered, right?

Darn! I don’t remember whether I got sprinkled or not … but surely I did since Catholicism was the religion of choice on my adoptive father’s side. So I must be safe too. Right? Phew!

I do enjoy christians doing their best to claim each other aren’t Christians. It does a wonderful job in showing that they aren’t the majority religion they all claim they are.

This is not the work of a believer. The author says Christianity originated from community and was practised as such and that the Christianity of Protestantism is almost a heresy.

I was just perusing through some old SoM comments yesterday. I just wanted to throw my iPad on the ground and stomp the shit out of it. Hate might be too strong a word, but hate it is…

He was a gem. His brand of rudeness, crudeness, and name-calling histrionics has yet to be outdone. I wonder what happened to him. Such a fine fellow. 🙂

SoM and histrionic in the same sentence. I think I actually used those two words together, both times were about SoM. LoL

All the religions (one-true or otherwise) have outlived themselves, right on schedule, following a glacially slow descent from the 1500-1600s. When we were kids the Catholic Church was comfort food, a haven, a place you could take solace in and at. Even the Protestants had their own rhythms.
It’s only within the past 20 or 30 years that religion has become less of a comforting blanket and more of a noose around the neck. When you start defrocking Archbishops and discovering covens of abuse at, basically, the foot of the altar, you finally realize that the slide is now less glacial and more headlong.
I miss what was, but would not want to be a part of the end times. It’s gonna get uglee.

The end should come quick. I hope I am around to witness it

Something tells me it’s not gonna go down gently. Dark Ages and a lot of howling in the storm stuff, and I have never been so glad to be at this end of life–with luck, I’ll be able to say, “oh, damn…there it goes…” and then fade out.
