My favorite story is how Brazilian police officers have formed sub rosa “militias” that control drug trade, illegal construction, and extortion rings. Our bad cops are pikers compared to this epic level of semi-officially winked at derring do!
Although one recent year in Vallejo, California, the blue gang had shot more people than the drug dealers.

Oh, it’s even better than that. The head of the (police) malitia responsible for executing a Rio politician (who was investigating the militias) lives 2 doors down from Bolsonaro in the same gated community. He and Bolsonaro’s son are friends.

Police should be paid as much as lawyers, and teachers should be paid as much as CEO’s (if not more). Both are absolutely critical to a successful society.

And politicians should volunteer and only paid an allowance to cover transport

Good idea, although we could add an incentive factor, like bonuses for reaching targets. Make it performance based.

Or call politicians only when we need them. And only volunteer those who have done useful things in the community or are involved actively in community issues.
