Random thoughts 
I would say the wall of Belief (at least for now and in this era) has been breached, and is rapidly being torn apart. Only the most desperate refuse to see, and the more demollition, the harder the faithful cling to the bits that are left. There will always be a religion. Just not this one.
I’m not going to be around for the next one, and I surely hope we don’t invent a martyr for it. If I were a betting person, my money is on Computers as the next Holy of Holies. It has all the necessary components, all we need is to acknowledge a ‘spiritual’ leader.

These ones still have money and followers, but they will die, someday to be replaced by another and when that happens, I don’t want to be around. Except if they join my church and become dudes

Lloyd Geering has a number of definition of God, and one which I particularly like is his contention that God is the mythical embodiment of our highest values. That is all God is.
As might be expected the fundamentalists, evangelicals and Pentecostals strongly oppose this notion, but what I find surprising is the number of atheists who also object to this concept and insist that the only acceptable understanding of God is a supernatural being. Even the arguments of Dawkins, Harris and Hitchens are largely based on this premise. Outside of the groups I’ve mentioned above, I’m not sure that there are many Christians who insist the only acceptable understanding of God is as a deity.

many Christians you meet on the streets of Nairobi will tell you they understand god only as deity not as myth.
As for me, god is a meaningless word, generally but believed by many people to hold some deep meaning

Either way, no matter which bread knife you use, it still cuts the same loaf of bread. A ‘deity’ is still an imaginary being, put up on a pedestal to be worshiped, prayed to, obeyed. The irony is, we make up the rules. We chain ourselves to the deity with the chains we made.
As children, many small kids have imaginary friends, and the rules are quite strict: this chair, not that one. The blue glass, not the white. She can only go out THAT door, and she always has to go first.
We laugh at such things and finally the kids outgrow it. And then we take them to church and teach them about the imaginary friend WE have, as adults. The one with strict rules.

Way before science came along and explained floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and volcanoes… And explained evolutionary processes that give us our true origins, there might have been a place for gods.
Now, not so much. Or for one to find that they just must to cling to gods, it requires a certain amount of wilfully ignoring the evidence.
