Sex

Why is sex among humans such a deal breaker, maker and everything in between? Men have gone to war, if Homer is to be believed, because Paris dared to take Helen of Troy away from King Menelaus which as all of you who read books, know ended in bloodshed. And there are many instances along the way, of men (why mostly men anyway) being brought down for dipping in places they were not meant to be dipping?

Then you have religions having morbid relationship with sex as discussed in Chapman Cohen’s book.

Honestly I kind of think it is because from an evolutionary standpoint we are wired to be conservative when it comes to sex. Pregnancy is costly for a woman in terms of health and resources needed for a healthy delivery. Many male primates, including human males, have a natural inclination to not being cuckolded. As hunter gathers, we were very aware of the dangers of overpopulation. Raising a human in the first two years especially, is also costly from a resources standpoint as they aren’t very mobile, for a species that through much of its evolution was nomadic. Things like birth control, and the health knowledge and technology we have to ensure safer pregnancies, delivery, etc isn’t a part of our wiring in the brain. Then of course civilization, which led to population explosions, reinforced ideas of monogamy and lawful unions in order to ensure property rights thus making sexual promiscuity a problem, even though they had no problem having married couples have as many kids as they wanted.

Perhaps religions got immersed in the sexual aspects as a means of enticing the public to attend their functions and to be exposed to all the gossip. I guess the earlier forms of prayer were “praise our deity and pass me a sexual partner!” 🙂 Naked hugs!

  6. At 5 years old, I didn’t know what sex was.
At 15, all I knew is that I wanted it BAD!
At 25, my strong sexual desires weakened my negotiation skills.
At 35, experience hardened my vulnerability to detrimental negotiations.
At 45, I became reluctant to even engage in sexual negotiations.
At 55, I realized that sexual desire is a form of madness.
Now, 1 year shy of 65, I realize that madness is necessary for reproduction.

  8. Eric Alagan says:

    Try imagining life without sex.

Counter staff: So, what’ll it be?
Customer: Pink and pretty. Blonde up there, brunette down there.

  9. Because whether you are a King of a religious man, men look at each other from a point of ownership because that’s how men estimate their status. It’s always been that way. What you have, what you made in the world, who is at your side. This might sound very primal but it’s true. Having said this I think more men give of themselves when having sex than they would ever say. There is this strange freaky link between a man’s emotions and his penis. So yes, for a certain woman who he has had sex with a man will kill an entire country but that same man who had sex with another woman might never think of her again. Men do not carry their emotions or reason like women.
