The earth is not flat? I bet you did but did you know that even fellows at that loony website run by Hambo believe that flat earthers are loonies? Well, the cat is our of the bag or is it the bag is out of the cat and they have come to tell that the likes of cs and others of his persuasion are complete loonies.
If the earth was flat, the cats would have knocked everything off by now.

It’s not even clear to me what the motivation is for flat earther’s other than I guess the powers that be are lying to us. I mean at least with something like 9/11 if the truthers were right it would say something insidious about the government and would be good for people to know. If the true shape of the Earth was all a big lie, it changes nothing apparently on how ships travel, or airplanes fly. Our cell phones still work the same. Other than convincing people to not trust anything you learn in school, which seems like a bad idea, I don’t get really what would be different about the world should someday everybody agree with them that the Earth is flat. It’s a pointless conspiracy theory. lol

these idiots are like any conspiracy theorist, they love believing that they know some special secret so they can feel important and special. Just like theists.

Agreed. This is sort of the conclusion I’ve come to in regards to what drives a lot of conspiracy theorists, is that it’s essentially a type of counter-culture that allows them to feel special.

And fill the gap left by untruths told by governments. One wonders why governments lie when they are for the people and by the people

Governments ARE generally insidious. Especially one as objectively evil as the Dr. Strangelove regime that has controlled the U.S. for 70+ years. For example, there are plenty of wacky conspiracy sites out there babbling about chemtrails and MK Ultra. Generally utter nonsense, but one problem is the CIA DID conduct nefarious experiments on unsuspecting people with mind altering drugs! Americans are all familiar with Pizzagate in which Hillary Clinton was running a pedophile ring out of a Pennsylvania? pizza parlor, which was visited by a deranged gun toting nut inspired by Alex Jones. The problem is, Jefferey Epstein was protected for years by politicians and business leaders from both parties. Alex Jones also babbles abaout chemicals creating gay frogs. Silly, no? Before we laugh, the problem is dumping tons and tons of estrogenic chlorinated chemicals into the environment IS affecting hormonal balances across the ecosphere. Some researchers claim that human males DO have lower testosterone levels than their ancestors. Causality is complicated, but could this be one (of many) explanations for the increasing interest in gender fluidity these days?
Off the fix my tin foil hat now. I feel the aliens’ signals are getting through!

Brian, I don’t disagree that governments can be and in many cases are insidious, but that insidiousness is usually right in the open. Like you can try to not run a news story that shows how you accidentally bombed a bunch of kids or something, but somebody is going to report it, and it’s usually going to be a fairly reputable journalist, even if it’s in another country. Whistleblowers also uncover conspiracies before too long. The idea that for essenitally hundreds of years the true nature of the Earth is being hidden is ridiculous. And similarly the type of coordination it would take to execute 9/11 competently and keep whistleblowers from surfacing is immense . So while I don’t doubt governments might do something like that, I don’t think it would take very long for us to know the truth about it. Especially in a day and age where it is much more difficult to suppress information.

I am not trying to defend the flat earth people. Just making a general rant! 🙂 Of course they are ridiculous. (So is Cryin’ Alex Jones…But glyphosphates ARE terrible for the overall ecosystem).

Oh no, I didn’t think you were trying to defend them, I was just saying that the actual insidious works of governments is usually pretty easy to prove!

The one about the shape and edge of the earth they say that the CIA does not allow anyone to go beyond the edge of Greenland to prove that at the edge of the ice is a big cliff or something of the sort. I mean it is real crazy

The CIA is definitely not that powerful. Also if we already had CIA presence in Greenland, why wouldn’t Denmark just let the U.S. buy it? lol

The answer, my friend, is that it is all subterfuge so that they continue to deceive us.

Many people believe governments are lying. And by extension scientists. So there is room enough for loonies to make absurd claims about anything. And the flat eathers have a following and a leader, maybe they will start making money off it

well, governments are human institutions run by human people, often power seeking and even sociopathic. Of course there will be “lying”. There is also lying in churches, in professions, in business, in families, in casual social groups. Human beings lie habitually to gain advantage. The goal is of course to minimize this, reduce impacts, etc.
The flat earthers are often religious nuts. Religious leaders lie shamelessly and eternally.

Beside flat earth lunacy, there is a movement that proclaims plate tectonics is a flawed theory and earth is hollow inside and expanding like a balloon, and that THIS is why we have continental drift. One of my favorite comic book artists, Neal Adams, is a proponent of this belief. He, and other loonies like him, believe earth is hollow and there are animals and perhaps other civilizations existing within it. I thought this was a joke, but it is not. There are people who deeply believe this crap and think those who don’t are idjits. My dream is for the expanding earthers to debate flat earthers on live TV ASAP. Wouldn’t THAT be a fun watch? Hell, let’s toss some YEC’s in there for fun ‘n let ’em go at it! The deliberate, chosen ignorance of certain members of my species truly never ceases to amaze we. There are some truly large idjits out there. People’s need to feel and be important can seemingly outweigh any form of common sense in almost any given circumstance and situation in spite of what evidence may say to the contrary.

Interesting argument. Not sure it is true, though. People have believed crazy things for generations.
Because I am being so very, very random today, are you familiar with one explanation for lower violent crime rates in the United States-the banning of leaded gasoline? Fascinating argument.

I think crime, especially violent crime, is statistically down in the United States? Except for a few cities. Statistics do not necessarily reflect what the media reports, which implies that every American city is Mogadishu under continuous attack by Al Shabab.
Even the horrors of the murder rate in Chicago are sadly limited to a few neighborhoods.
