teenage marriage in Iraq

I found this article to be quite disturbing, and that is to say a lot.

Clerics are grooming vulnerable girls in Iraq and offering them for sex, using a controversial religious practice known as “pleasure marriage”.

It points to two things; a failed system that makes exploitation possible and morbid relationship with sex where avenues for adults who are not married and want to indulge are closed by religious strictures. So the men and clerics have developed a clever ploy to beat the religion and in the process exploit vulnerable girls.

I think everyday there is something somewhere to be enraged about.

Have you ever seen or read The Kite Runner? Islamic culture has some neat tricks to define what is permissible by hair splitting. The Bacha Bazi is permissible “boy play” with prepubescent children. See, that doesn’t count in the definition of defiling a virgin. US soldiers in Afghanistan were even instructed to ignore this atrocious custom in the name of “cultural differences”.

I don’t want to be pedantic, though you say “Iran” in this post’s title while both in your description and the article you link to it’s all about Iraq…

  5. Sounds like the fundamentalist morons……multiple marriages to 14/15 year olds…& getting them pregnant as fast as possible.

The extraordinary efforts believers invent to circumvent the customs enforced by religions is always interesting and yet sad. It makes one proud to be a complete non-believer! Naked hugs! 😉

Yet another case of religion exlpoiting children, move along, nothing to see here.

Things like this are why my disgust for all religion is shared equally.
