Or better know as Chinese Virus has made this the worst of times. It is the first very serious global pandemic that many of us are experiencing unless you are old as the Ark then you were here for the Spanish flu of 1918. H1N1 was not this bad if I recall.
I have seen videos of people fighting over tissue paper. One would think it is a paper pandemic, but no, it is just flu and you can use water to wash your tuchas. It’s not like self quarantine includes not taking showers or washing tuchas. I am convinced that human beings are generally irrational.
Those who insist that the government should not be involved in the market ( it is involved even in those so called free markets through its actions of deregulation) should tell me how the market will correct for idiocy of hoarding hand sanitizers, tissue paper or spirit.
At our office we are putting protocols in place to reduce contact, minimise risk of transmission and other measures as recommended by health professionals. I hope this will keep people safe for the time being.
I have seen people sharing some Bible verse telling them that they should be praying and not observing basic hygiene. I want to suggest that you don’t do nothing stupid and risk the lives of those around you.
There are 4 active cases that have been recorded in my backyard. It is scary shit.
Finally, for those who love data, here is an active link of how the virus is behaving around the globe.
Keep safe everyone.
Great info….thanks

Thanks Bob. It appears the time when humans are to at least show they are rational has come and gone.

My concern is that the reaction may be worse than the disease. How many people die of flu each year? There were nearly 7,000 pedestrians and cyclists killed by cars in the United States last year….where are the calls for banning private automobiles (or placing size, weight, and power/speed limits on cars)?
Stay well, everyone. I am old enough and subject enough to respiratory problems to be on the edge of the target population, so I should not be blithe.

Each day thousands die from hunger but the thing is, only poor people die from starvation and you really can’t make the next person hungry. But here is a flu that one person can infect two to three people even before they become asymptomatic and that’s the danger with this thing. And now humans are taking advantage to profit.

well, here in the US we saw the usual idiots with their “day of prayer” which did nothing as expected.

Even here I have seen the president has called for a national day of pray to be held on Saturday.

Let’s see whether the virus will end after the Saturday prayers.

Praying does something! It keeps the virus warm on the palms of your hand ๐

And it helps if you are praying while tightly packed like sardines- the virus might spread easily

I am also convinced that humans are generally irrational. Morons, dumbasses, dipsticks, dingbats, dufuses, and deplorables. We of reasonable intelligence are screwed. Thus tRump.
H1N1, I had that one a few years ago, that is one nasty case of the flu.
With all of this pandemic stuff, I called my dad yesterday who is 80. Just to say hey.
Stay healthy friends.

The reaction of so many to the virus is one of complete panic. It is a serious experience and should be treated with caution – NOT panic. As for the prayer day, is the U.S. presidential idiot participating in a golf tournament that day? ๐ Naked hugs!

I think people have chosen panic as their response

I think one of the reasons people panic over something like this is from the sense that we have utterly no control over what seems to be a nearly inevitable invisible ‘thing’. Cars kill people, but you can choose NOT to ride in one, or drive one. We have vaccines for the flu, including the pneumonia shot. To get the shots is also a choice. Most things that we are victims of are manageable, in some way.
It’s the inevitable unstoppable that throw us into a panic.
We fear what we can’t see, or sense, or control. I agree, a lot of folks get crazy, and do more harm than good, but that’s ignorance and religion talking. “if we get this, it’s because we sinned.” sigh.
And hoarding, i think, is a primitive instinct, a kind of mental protection or a buffer against whatever scares us. He says, ‘I have 50 packages of paper napkins and toilet paper, I’m safe now.” Or they look at the cupboard full of peanut butter and coffee cans, and feel safer.
it doesn’t have to make sense, it just is. I suspect even in primitive times people hoarded what they could on a truly survival plane; if we save all these bones, we will have enough marrow to get us through the winter. That kind of instinct is primal, and real.

I think people are haording tissue paper to feel good or safe. It seems irrational to me to say the least.
Fear and ignorance gave us the gods. Now fear and ignorance will give us economic depression
