I have the same problem on my Android phone and my two Linux boxes here in NZ. There appears to be regional blocking as I can watch it via a US based VPN.

But I did find an alternative clip that is accessible from NZ and possibly elsewhere: https://youtu.be/yzJnflohRSM

Do you have such media organisations that don’t care about being factual?

No, Strongly partisan viewpoints don’t go down too well with the public. We prefer cooperation, consensus and compromise as a means of achieving our goals.

We’re also a very tolerant lot when it comes to accepting different viewpoints, so heavily biased or prejudiced media fail to get much of a following here.

Our media is partisan and generally we know they are hardly independent. They will either act as statehouse mouthpiece because of advertisement revenue or for some politician or the political class as whole because they must make sales.

Thanks for the link. I figured it was either my proxy or YouTube ad blockers, neither of which I’m willing to disable for the sake of a video.

Out of curiosity, which distro(s) do you run? I ran Knoppix, Ubuntu and Tiny Core for close to a decade but switched back to Windows 10 when I bought a new computer two years ago.

Haven’t used Windows since around 2008. I used Ubuntu until they introduced the Unity desktop when I switched to Xubuntu. Still use that on the laptop and the wife’s desktop. In January I switched my desktop to Kubuntu. We also have one headless machine running Ubuntu Server.

We subscribe to a VPN service so that the wife can watch Japanese content that is otherwise blocked in New Zealand. This especially applied to Kindle Japanese language publications.

The last new computer I bought was in 1995. Then I went through a phase of building my own. These days I purchase refurbished ex lease machines – typically around 20% of price of a new one.

I saw it too. I love John Oliver, he cuts right to the heart of things. I also avoid Trump stuff religiously. He’s the stuff nightmares are made of.

Ok, I’ve watched the video. But why is Mr. Oliver angry given that he once begged Mr. Trump to run for president. I guess he should have heeded the advice to be careful what you wish for, lest it come true. I imagine Bill Maher now too regrets flippantly suggesting that he’d gladly welcome a recession if it meant ousting Mr. Trump.

I wonder if Mr. Maher’s former audience is still clapping.

I could, but these men don’t really care about anything but themselves. Like most celebrities and politicians, they live in gated communities far removed from the people they pretend to care about. They talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk. We call them limousine liberals because they tell everyone else to live more frugally and use public transportation while they drive around in luxury vehicles and fly around the world in their private planes.

Oliver said it because he thought it would be a great gag, not the he liked him or thought he had a chance at winning.

As for Maher…he basically was saying ..we can get over a recession and if it keeps trump from being president, it’d be worth it…well…wouldn’t it have been worth it?…considering where we are today with a great possibility of a depression, a loon as a president, a virus that this administration was totally unprepared for and resorted to lying about, damage to the environment and a renewal of rampant racism in the US.
