that it didn’t matter whether the gospels had mistakes? I know you didn’t but now you know. It is important for you to know that Jesus died for your sins but you are still going to hell for that tattoo or for the shrimp you ate.
I don’t think there are mistakes in the gospels; but even if there were, it wouldn’t affect the core of the Gospel: Jesus died for our sins, defeated death by rising again, and is coming back in glory to establish the Kingdom of God. Those truths stand firm forever!
I am glad we have this cleared up.
Why had early Christianity been so successful in spreading all over the antique world, despite the more powerful competition of contemporary religions? The only reason I can see is, the words of the prophet Jesus had been kept simple without room for sophistry and interpretations for a long time. The conviction of those simple words lasted until the takeover of Christianity by the Roman oligarchs! And without doubt, the history of takeovers is repeating itself in it varies forms to this day.

that is beside the point, how else could it be explained?

How can the spread of myth be explained? Seriously? It’s incredibly easy, particularly where there is ignorance. There are Asian myths much older than Christianity that are still believed by many today. That’s not evidence of the veracity of those myths.

This is why I’m a Muslim. Islam is a real religion and not a myth. It says so right in the Koran: “This book is not to be doubted.” I mean, COME ON!!! What else do you need to know the Koran is fact and not myth and all other religions are made up fantasy. $Allahu Akbar$

Many of the most active and dangerous beliefs in witches are right now being promoted by True Christian Ministers in Africa. Funny how this Gospel of Lurrrrvvveee which we are told is so simple and lovely that it spread quickly for no reason other than Gawd has led to so many hundreds of thousands of deaths. Including the horrible torture of young children in Nigeria right now, led by horrific preachers playing off superstition.

Hahaha. Not because there have been witches and the bible says we should burn them?

It doesn’t matter whether there are mistakes in the gospels.
Those mistakes — all of them, whether mistranslations or copying errors — those mistakes are all divinely inspired for the greater glory of god.

well, of course. Given his omni-ness everything is according to His ineffable Plan. EVERYTHING. The Holocaust? The Big G! The Black Plague that killed 1/3-1/2 of the population (a very pious population, I might add)… Our Lord is just playing with his favorite sentient toys.
mcphus: How do you know the Gospel contains the “words of the prophet Jesus”. They were written decades after his purported life and conflict on many points.
And it is breathtaking to even imply that the early Christian Church was not rife with conflict and internecine struggle. (Paul vs. people who actually KNEW Jesus, for one)
It took the Roman State to impose via force any uniformity (for a short while). And many of the ideas in Christianity were lifted from other mystery religions rife in the early Levant, so it is not that the “simple words” in the Gospel were all that new or unique.

and the REAL core doctrine of Christianity is this all knowing all powerful creator deity is either incompetent or malevolent. This clcassic sums up the “core message” pretty well. https://i.imgur.com/i8yV7sN.jpg?

I call B.S. This is typical “look back to the golden age” thinking humans are prone to. There was NEVER a unified, universal message in Christianity. The death cult was rife with dissension from the beginning. and not with respect to “finances and the dictates”. Fundamental questions of doctrine, including the mechanism of salvation itself and even the concept of “The Trinity”. And these conflicts were often “resolved” with violence.

If God was perfect, or at least paying attention, you’d think he’d not have needed scribes to write his stuff down, just beam it into the ears of the believers and non-believers alike, like heavy metal music at a rock concert.

No. God is telling the story of Jesus through many mouths, like the many books about Churchill. Only difference is the biographers of Jesus can’t agree on where and what he was born
