how to win friends

As in political so in literary action a man wins friends for himself mostly by the passion of his prejudices and by the consistent narrowness of his outlook.

A personal record by Joseph Conrad

Hmm. If that was true, then it would explain why I don’t need all my thumbs to tally up my friends on 🙂

Is your outlook narrow? Or it could be your prejudices:)

      • Barry says:

The original quote appeared to suggest that those who were more passionate about their prejudices and were consistently narrow minded in their outlook won more friends, but I have very few friends. Did I misunderstand Joseph Conrad?

        • makagutu says:

No, you didn’t but generally that’s how most people end up with friends. They hate the same people and agree on a narrow definition of the world

I’ve been told on many occasions that I’m so open minded that my brains are in danger of falling out. It’s been used as a compliment and a criticism in about equal measure 🙂

The reality of why I have few friends is that aside from the fact that I don’t have a drive to make friends, my inability to read social cues correctly means that not many people want to include me in their social circles. It’s a reality of life for many autistics
