    Mak, while I appreciate the “mention,” I don’t do well with (1) videos without CC, and (2) looooong videos. So I’m afraid you’ll have to rely on the reactions of others. Sorry. 🙁 But thanks for thinking of me! 😀

        I managed to sit through it – just. All 27 minutes and 8 seconds of it. It felt much longer. I agree with basenjibrian’s opinion of it, possibly because I am a boomer too.

        Actually the video does convey the essential message of Jesus (and other teachers) within it, and it is correct in that the message has become corrupted by many who claim to follow his teaching. However, condensing the deliberate corruption of the “Christian” message into the space of a few days was a bit much to swallow for me.

        Whether or not a real Jesus ever existed, I’m not persuaded there was any intention by early followers to create a new religion. It seems that their intention was to follow the “Way” of Jesus. A new religion, or any religion for that matter, wasn’t necessary for that.

        Perhaps we can blame Paul and the writers of the Gospels for what has happened to the original message of love, compassion and kindness. Or perhaps we can blame those who followed who mistook allegory, storytelling and metaphor for literal “truth”.

          Barry, I agree with your analysis that the early followers had no desire/intention to start a “new religion.” And I absolutely agree that we can blame Paul for what the “Christian Church” is today (a mess!).

          I’ve said it before — it’s truly a shame that believers simply absorb what comes from the pulpit and never expend the time and/or energy to investigate the true history of Christianity.

          I always snarkily call Christianity “Paulism”. Paul never met Jesus* and battled ferociously with anyone who did.

          (*Except in his fevered hallucinations, of course)

          Paul was another Joseph Smith or even Jim Jones who lucked into founding a movement that was…USEFUL…for certain Roman emperors. Just like Jim Jones, it was also appealing to the oppressed.
