Did anyone witness God writing “God is here”. If so, which god was it. How do we know it wasn’t a god from a minor pantheon claiming a status beyond his skill set? The standard of calligraphy suggests that he/she/it/they lack even basic god-like ability. You’d think it would be in some beautiful font, wouldn’t you.

I was prompted to make that comment as I have just started watching the rerun of a TV series that was first broadcast here ten years ago – The Almighty Johnsons. The Norse gods are hiding out as far from Europe as possible (Aotearoa New Zealand, naturally) as they have lost almost all of their powers and must fulfil a prophesy to regain their former powers and the restoration of Asgard. Writing “God is here” might well be what someone who has just discovered that are the reincarnation of a god might do when they are forbidden to let mortals know their true identity.
The show was censored when shown in America as the nudity, swearing and drug use was considered not suitable for broadcast in its original form.

I didn’t actually state that “God is here” was a forgery. I was merely wondering which of the thousands of known gods wrote it. The penmanship would suggest it wasn’t a particularly great god.
As for Dennis, which Dennis – I’m sure there’s more than one.

And here, that would take a show out of prime time television unless the worst of the gore was cut. Nudity, sex, and swearing are acceptable, graphic violence much less so.

A temple is the way religious people have discovered they can show their love for god. the monstrous the church, the bigger their love. Look at the Cathedral in Ivory Coast for an idea of this

Not god was here, but god is here. Still there, not like Kilroy. Why do you suppose people write about themselves in the past tense when they are actually there at that moment?

Interesting question. It makes sense to write them in past tense because it is a memento to celebrate being there at a point in time.

If it is not in God’s Chosen Land (The United States of America Under God Praise Jay-zus) does it even exist? I can believe, for example, that BARRY is some kind of higher level archdemon sent here to tempt us all from the true faiths! (be they fundamentalist Christianity, Islam (h/t Jeff) or Atheism, which we are told is a religion. too) 🙂

How people confidently write or say atheism is a religion leaves me wondering how good their faculties are

I have met atheists for whom atheism is religion-like in that with passion and fervour, they try and convert you to atheism as any form of religion or spirituality is inherently harmful to adherents and all who come into contact with them, or else they consider anyone who isn’t an atheist an ignorant and weak fool who needs a sky-daddy to make decisions for them, so therefore are worthy of contempt. I’ve even encountered a few that do both.
One of the longest evenings I’ve ever had was at a dinner party where one such person, having discovered I’m a Quaker (the wife let it slip, not me), spent the rest of the evening alternating between articulating what was so good and wonderful about atheism and being highly critical of what he mistakenly believed Quakerism was all about. He would have put the best fire and brimstone Christian evangelical fundamentalist preacher to shame. If I had been in a better mood, I might have egged him on and enjoyed every minute, but I was recovering from a migraine and went to the dinner only because the wife wanted me to accompany her.

So you’ve discovered our little secret scheme? Do you know what archdaemons do to people who displease them? Unlike deities who must obey for all time the rules they themselves have put in place, archdaemons do not. I’ll let you stew on that for a while…

I don’t know, Barry. Yahweh seems to have made a lot of mistakes, changed His mind quite a lot, and regretted things. He IS “the rules” so He changes them at will. Which is quite odd for an eternal, transcendental deity which exists outside mere human time and space, but hey….

That’s humankind’s misunderstanding of the rules. That guy IS bound by the rules. Just because he says he’s the top dog doesn’t mean he is. And for your information there’s no rule against deities lying. That’s a rule imposed on mortals only

I think you fail to understand that the rules a deity demands of his followers are not necessarily the rules that said deity follows.
Take for example the god of the Bible. He prohibits the killing of one human being by another. Unless of course he himself orders it. Then it’s perfectly okay, even when it is genocide. In fact the Bible records that an entire tribe of his followers were punished for not carrying out a genocide to the extent he had specified.
One rule for mortals, another for immortals.

And he should know. He once described me as a disgrace to humanity. I was critical of the dropping of atomic bombs on Japan as they targeted civilians as a means of influencing the outcome of the war. Apparently because God was on America’s side, while the Japanese were heathen, it was acceptable.

Absolutely without shame. He’s a believer in “total war” – no distinction made between civilian resources and military targets. Any means to win a war is justified. Hence justification of atomic bombing civilian targets in Japan and fire bombing Dresden in Germany.
He made the “disgraceful” comment when I asked him how they differ from 9/11, as to me they were similar: attacking civilians in order to achieve a military/political outcome.
Apparently 9/11 was terrorism and therefore evil, as was the horrific treatment of allied prisoners by the Japanese during WW2. But The “total war” ideology justified Dresden, Nagasaki, and Hiroshima bombings.

I made the comment very much tongue in cheek, and as an observation of the beliefs and practices of a small proportion of Christians – the Fundamentalists. But I guess the proportion does vary from region to region. Here it’s possibly 5% – 10% of Christians who are fundamentalists, with around 35% of all Kiwis being Christian. In your neck of the woods, and in Mak’s it seems the proportions are somewhat different. In the US, a little over 70% are Christian, of whom around 40% are fundamentalists. In Kenya more than 85% are Christian, and although I can’t find any specifics It would appear that more than half of Christians there are Fundamentalists.
So while I can safely make such a comment here, with almost everyone, including most Christians seeing the funny side of the comment, perhaps it doesn’t go down as well in places where Fundamentalism has considerable influence?

After all, why would the real Yahweh leave any proof of His presence in one of the benighted countries dominated by THOSE people? Repent and pray to Saint Donald of Mar E Lago so that may intercede for you with the Lord!
Did you all know that this year is the 245th year of the United States’ Declaration of Independence? 2 45. Which means, obviously, that God intends for Donald Trump (President Number 45) to have two terms. We await his re-coronation in August. Take that, libtards!

I know we are supposed to avoid being elitist and supposed to reach out to our religious brethren. But the level of screaming, babbling insanity that is foaming out of the religious right these days is terrifying. Have these folks always been this nuts? I need to stop reading The Friendly Atheist, whose schtick is finding the train wrecks and firecracker factory explosions and chemical fires that constitute the conservative politics of today.

Paula White was onto something when she called on angels from Africa. She knew god was hiding in Africa. I mean, every blog post i read from your end has the statement that god has been removed from schools, from the public square and i don’t know where else. It was important for god to find a new home.
