Well, I paid for the rapid ascent by throwing up but that was it.

Hm. That must’ve been a bit debilitating. Still – Kirinyaga must be one those ‘best ever’ experiences. There was a slightly mad Swiss-English woman – Vivienne de Watville who went to live on the slopes of Mt Kenya for several months and wrote about it. Much later she ended up living and dying in very rural Shropshire not far from us. And then there was Joy Adamson of course, also slightly mad, who went up there to create fabulous botanical paintings of the plant life. The summit was my first view of Kenya when I flew in – Jomo Kenyatta was out of plane parking space, and the one I was on, kept flying round and round the summit until it could land. I could scarcely believe my eyes up among those dark jagged spires.

It was, but the view at the top is amazing.
I thought I was crazy until I met a group who decided to summit and back to the gate in one day.
