War

Or rumours of a war. War on the east, War in the west. War everywhere.

It does seem to me that for some regimes facing issues of legitimacy at home, external conflict or War is their War to rally the nation together or divert attention from the real issues. This seems to be the case between Tehran and Tel Aviv. Bibi is intent on destroying nuclear plants in Iran regardless or the cost and in the recent past, there has been escalations that if not checked may lead to a bloodbath in the east.

Lockheed Martin and other defense suppliers seems to have run out of money as well. Maybe the war in Ukraine is not bringing in as huge profits as they would prefer and they may as well help in festering the ground for War in the east.

China is toying with the idea of annexing Taiwan. This too would be a bloody battle and shortly, it will be rockets dying, children flying. And all of us caught in between.

The possibility of nuclear holocaust continues to rise. The war between Ukraine and Russia is unwinnable. Which reminds me of the remarks Denzel made in the movie Crimson Tide, in a nuclear holocaust, there are no winners, only the dead and those who are left.

For a world in crisis, not recovered from the effects of the pandemic, war is the last thing anyone should be dreaming of. But it seems inevitable that unless something drastic happens, someone is going to make a mistake and it will be a shithole after that.

Maybe I am wrong and war is great.

Too many people, too many bullies and narcissists running the world, horrific weapons and killing machines, social media gone wild with propaganda and lies, politicians eaten up with greed, extreme inequality, racism, bigotry and the willfully ignorant masses….what could possibly go wrong.

Humanity seems to thrive on using war as the distraction for all of the ills that we bring upon ourselves. “If we can’t fix it, let’s invent a war!” We dare to distinguish ourselves as the highest level of life here! Very good posting, my Kenyan brother! 🙂 Naked hugs!

It has been shown over and over again throughout the centuries that humans simply cannot get along.

    Mostly on the male side.

It has also been shown that, in general (at the risk of being labeled a feminist), women have better and less destructive ways of settling things.

IMO, the answer is plain, but of course the male ego would never allow it. (Sorry guys.)

  4. The pressure-cooking effect, resulting in conflict between us humanoids has unabated continued since we climbed down from the trees.
Undeniable those conflicts will increase in intensity and brutality depending on the depth of the lasting resentments.
With less space and resources available for the ever-increasing human numbers, ample reasons to go to war are on offer.
Has that ever been not the case?
Whatever the initial spark that set off the explosion, there is not such a thing as a just war or a war that can be defended in the national interest.
War is the final outcome of diplomatic incompetence to find a sensible solution for the grievances on both sides. As no one wants to give and everyone wants to gain, pride will win out over humility.
And not to forget, there is the military machine, barely containing the overflow of testosterone,
and always in desperate need to prove their usefulness. Not to forget the lobbyists of the armament industries.
You are right, a nuclear war creating a clean slate might be the only solution left for humankind to start again.

We have been convinced also that nuclear weapons are only safe in the hands of the Americans, the Russians and the Chinese. Anyone else must be stopped. But I keep wondering with the US electing sober people like MTG, will this be tenable for long?
War creates national heroes, sometimes out of cowards and vagabonds. It is not going to lose its appeal any time soon.

      • WHAT???!!! Are you saying that smokin’ hot, super well-spoken, babe MTG isn’t to be trusted with nukes??!! I mean, COME ON!!!! She literally radiates love, empathy, and compassion for those most unlike herself, Mak. There’s NO WAY she’d make a rash decision to use a nuke. Well, that is, unless she uses one on a liberal, woke piece of crap. Then it’d be ok cause those people are lizard-skinned aliens that eat the souls of infants in pizza parlor basements all throughout ‘Murica. In such cases, nukes are the only resort. 🙂

Hahaha. MTG is sober. Level minded politician ever minted by the US of A. If you had just 10 of her number in that 432 member Congress of yours ( or whatever the number is), yours would be the greatest country ever imagined. Forget the lost city of Atlantic. Even myth couldn’t come up with a better nation.
And I agree. Liberal woke people, nuke them.

Mak — commenting here since remarks are going off the page …

Thanks for the article link. I especially liked the closing comment(s):

But a biologist’s job is to describe and explain the natural world as accurately as possible, not to protect or affirm the identities of “marginalized communities.” Scientists are being increasingly required to incorporate political initiatives into their research programs to stay competitive for grants and promotions.

I find that last sentence highly unfortunate.
