I STRONGLY recommend it if you’re into well-thought-out sci-fi.
Otherwise, I’m well, sir! Hope you’re well, too. Grateful (to the blind forces of nature, of course) to have made it into the new year! Happy 2021!

Time means little to me. Literally. I can’t sense the passage of time so the subtlety of most of the time expressions George Carlin referred to escapes me. Strange, but even though those expressions are all odd to me (or maybe because they do seem odd) I found that video clip very funny.

Barry, that you can’t sense the passage of time is the whole clip. We have made it up. We have different calenders. There is never now. Its all future and past.

If you were stuck in a lift without a means of telling the time, would you have a sense of how long you were stuck – like the difference between 5 minutes or five hours?
Whether or not time is made up, most people seem to have a sense of the passage of time. Most people instinctively know the difference between five minutes and five hours. I don’t.

Stuck in a lift, one minute would feel like 20. I wouldn’t tell how much time has passed in such a tense situation.

You’re being difficult ๐
You’re on a dinner date and your partner excuses themself to use the toilet and will be back “in a couple of minutes”. How long would it be before you think they’ve been gone too long? Five minutes? Fifteen minutes? An hour?. For me it would be when the Maรฎtre D’ asks me to leave as it’s midnight and they’re closing up for the night. I would have had no idea that five hours had passed. I’d still be in “a couple of minutes” mode, expecting them to return at “any moment”.
For most people, there’d come a moment of time at which they would become concerned about their partner’s absence. Without some reference such as a clock, I have absolutely no idea how much time in minutes or hours has passed.

I knew your blog had a purpose. About time you finally discovered it.
Now you no longer have to write all those philosophical things you make up and think we understand what you go on about.
Just post us some George until the end of time!!! ๐
(I love you!!)
