big bang singularity

Every time you see a diagram, an article, or a story talking about the “big bang singularity” or any sort of big bang/singularity existing before inflation, know that you’re dealing with an outdated method of thinking. The idea of a Big Bang singularity went out the window as soon as we realized we had a different state — that of cosmic inflation — preceding and setting up the early, hot-and-dense state of the Big Bang.

Sigh. Because we what happened before cosmic inflation is unknowable, it’s another hook creationists will hang a “Creator” on.

He’s right about the BB being more pop culture than anything real. It’s a hypothesis. Not exactly sure why he’s saying singularities are impossible, though. Black holes (both spinning and fixed) will produce them. The simple fact is we have absolutely no idea what was happening before inflation.

Every generation is equipped with its own culture and worldview, at least, among the thoughtful members of that generation. Naked hugs!

You might want to check out chicagoja’s latest post about the universe: https://theethicalwarrior.wordpress.com/2019/01/07/the-universe-is-missing/

As usual, he has a rather “different” slant on the topic.

I’m not sure I buy the argument that human consciousness somehow “creates” the universe. Does the act of observation in itself create the entity being observed? That seems rather desperately arrogant. And it ignores a vast universe out there beyond our observation. It also veers rather closely to the Christian “God created the Cosmos for us” theory only with arcane math rather than Scholastics debates about angels on pins. It also easily allows the nonsense of Quantum Wood promoted by the likes of Deepak Chopra and his ilk.

I have no problem with punting on the question. Why does there “have to be” a “matchmaker”? Maybe the universe just IS?

You stated — ” The idea of a Big Bang singularity went out the window as soon as we realized we had a different state — that of cosmic inflation ”

My response — Didn’t cosmic inflation go out the window when we realized we were a simulation 😉
