      • I did, but am unsure of the exact meanings…..I feel I’m liberal, but don’t really know.

You’re on the left and libertarian spectrum of the political compass! You question authority and are deeply distrustful of hierarchy. You believe strongly in personal liberty and individual freedoms. You firmly believe in a self-governed and non-hierarchical society with maximum individual freedoms for all. You support women’s rights, gay rights, and liberal attitudes on sex. You, however, favor collectively owned property and an economy that guarantees equality and opportunity. You believe in strong communities and favor a cooperative economy over dog eat dog capitalism. You’re a lefty, but you hate big government just as much as the next libertarian!

There is probably a difference between perception and reality.

Indeed polsters conclude that one reason Trump’s election was a surprise was because many Trump voters were not prepared to admit their support to opinion pollsters.

Authoritarian is, in my view, the preparedness to dictate to other people. I doubt that many authoritarians would admit to being such.

I predicted I’d be left lib, and I was right. Though I ended up more left than I expected and some of my answers were definitely on the authoritarian side. I did find that some of the questions deserved much more than agree/disagree because the answer depended on the interpretation of the question. Some questions required more thought because the politics behind the question is very involved.

    Interesting exercise all the same.

  5. I thought I’d be a Left/libertarian and I was correct. So, now that several of us know what that we’re in that category, I say we form an army and TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!

The poll here is a great idea! Good job, my Kenyan brother. As for my politics, I’m afraid that I’m so far libertarian and left that no one is able to locate me! 🙂 Naked hugs!

Someone on one of my posts (Political Conundrum) referenced this test. My results surprised me a bit, but not totally. I personally think our political temperature has a lot to do with how much we care about the human race and this planet.

Was anyone else confused by libertarian being on one axis and libertarianism being on the other axis? Until I figured that out, I was starting to get concerned with all the comments of people proudly declaring how libertarian they were.
In any event, that quiz has me nestled pretty deep into the bottom left corner, Economic Left/Right: -8.13, Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.28.
Maybe I’m still confused about the terminology, but I don’t agree with my libertarian results. I think I’m much closer to center on that one. All the related questions for that scale seemed to focus on shit that just doesn’t matter. “Should gay couples be allowed to adopt?” Of course they should. Easy, but it’s only informative if someone disagrees. In that case, they rate 95%+ authoritarian (and bigoted asshole). But if they agree, which should be most people, it tells you almost nothing. They could be anywhere on the graph under that 95% auth. mark. Or, I suppose, they could be 100% authoritarian but just not a homophobe ass-hat.
There were no middle questions like, “In snowy cities, should people be required by law to shovel and de-ice their sidewalks?” To which I happen to say yes. My province has about 500 reported injuries (skull fractures, hip fractures and broken arms) and about 9 deaths every year due to snow/ice slips. I have no problem reducing that through mandatory sidewalk care. Take a quarter of the people in charge of writing parking tickets and get them to write unsafe sidewalk tickets instead.
I’m not sure how far up the auth/lib scale such views would push me. While I don’t think they quite make me a fascist, I’m definitely not sitting just above anarchist.

I found some questions to really just fill up space. What does my view of abstract art got to do with my politics? I may not think it is art but I am not about to censor it though I really think that time would be spent more productively.
I found myself in the same quadrant with Chomsky, and from the very little of his thoughts I have listened to, I think we are on the same side.
On the terminology, I hope they mean the farther away from the centre to the left, the more liberal and socialist I appear.

  11. I took the test in early 2016 with these results:
    Economic Left/Right: -1.5
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.18

That said, I recall being skeptical of the site’s evaluation of political figures. It seems like the whole site is propaganda to convince you to support far left candidates.

I saw comments of others on WEIT who felt there were questions they would have answered no opinion on. So your comment makes a lot of sense. I came out very leftist.
