Whenever I get into a building the first thing that happens is I see mistakes, then only can I see what was done well.

When I was a younger man, a lifetime ago, I was trained as a custom home finisher. A commercial painter with an upgrade. Every time I walk into a building or a home, my eye quickly sees the shoddy work, only rarely do I see anything comparable to the kind of finish I was trained to apply. Certainly never better have I seen.
So it must be for many in their fields of training.
