Pay attention to the second part of the prayer. I wish to every prayer, there was such a part to go with it.

prayer for the destruction of enemies… not a very loving, forgiving or tolerant thing to do. good thing prayer fails

…Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep;
And if I die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my toys to break.
So poor children can’t have them.😛

That was utterly beautiful. Twain is THE man! A better writer of poignant satire has not lived.

I thought it was sublime.
It is so subtly anti war.

Noel, did you post this at another time? I remember seeing it at some point.
The only ones who win at war are those in powerful political positions and business CEOs (ahem, General Electric). Everyone on all sides loses, as well as their romantic partners, friends, children and parentsl. Hubs didn’t even go to war, but his work with explosives while in the Navy has destroyed
his humanity and patience. I have no fucking tolerance for war.
Spread love, stop war.

I don’t think I have.
And you are right about who wins wars, everyone loses except the money changers.
I am slowly coming to the realization that war is never going to end any time soon until we can find a way to express ourselves in the same way war allows many nondescript people to be recognized

Wow…that one leaves me a bit speechless. Thankfully prayer does exactly squat, so no enemy need worry. 😀

Oh yes. The enemy can go rest in peace and put their trust in their weapons if they must go to war

that music can bring down walls like what we read happened, is it in Jericho?

Not sure about Jericho. But one might say it spurred on soldiers fighting to bring down the walls of slavery in the USA.

I’m not sure about Jericho. But it may have indirectly spurred on the union soldiers in their fight to bring down the walls of slavery in the USA.
